Ive found the car n classic ad and ebay ad for the green J reg 24v that was for sale and sold last year..

So i have the one and only value on paper for a like to like model... ok its cleaner.. but might give them an idea.

That's good. That should help. I did that with mine, I found two ads, £1600 and £3000 I think, and they nearly matched it. I could have fought for more, but as I scrapped it myself, I got £1400.

Your view of how insurance companies deal with claims now is somewhat out of date.

In clear cut cases they just want to settle as quickly as possible, especially since claimants often go to Claims Handling companies, to sort the claim for them and keep them on the road. The cost of hire cars can run into tens of thousands if the claim isn't settled withing a few weeks.

My experience of 3rd party claims is that the insurance company have been straightforward and quick. Agree liability, request a loan car if required, prove damage and reasonable cost to repair, await repair or payment in lieu of such.

Parts can be recycled parts, but the repair is up to you if you accept a payment.

Legally, you aren't claiming off an insurance company, you are claiming off the insured. If dissatisfied with dealing with their insurance company, you can opt to sue them for the loss, of which they then pass the liability to their insurer.

I have located and printed out two ads.. one from carandclassic where the j reg green one shows sold for 2k or so and an ebay ad shows the car as not sold or reserve not met at 1,020 quid...

Whatever you do, don't let them write it off. Insurance companies don't like insuring categorised cars.

There is no need for them to write it off anyway, just accept a payment...end of.

John, my post describes what happened at the turn of the year. Same situation as Paul, police called, driver admitted liability, insurance company wanted pictures and quote for me to have the work done at a garage of my choice.

Six weeks from start to finish.
