Keep the battery trickle charged and it will survive OK, otherwise after several months of Winter, it will die of sulphation.

I can usually get rid of most sulphation on a battery ;)

I'll happily take the battery off your hands when it's dead Vince and see if I can revive and hand it over to our welsh hydro man :)

How do guys......

Not much in the way of xm'ing to report as mine is no where nearer returning to the road as a taxed and insured vehicle.....money continues to put paid to that

Further bad luck on that front continues....I copped a £100 fixed penalty fine the other day for speeding in a 30 zone (don't remember speeding) and to make matters worse where it was would have meant that I was on work business picking up parts for an urgent customer order no doubt....irrespective its £100 heavy hit for us, so my plans to go to the NEC are dashed  I simple cant afford to go now. That sucks as its a small slice of the car world before winter sets in.

Today its raining cats and dogs as I suppose it is for everyone  Apparently its going to be dry and sunny tomorrow so im going to jump start the xm and let it run for a while to keep all the internals in working order....I might even give it a wash and dry before covering it back up if I have enough time?

I could still do with finding a cheap rear silencer for it so I can get it on and put the spare wheel holder back on and out of the shed where its been living for weeks now.

I don't know about you but im not ready for winter just yet.....its not car friendly weather at all for getting stuff done.....or for car detailing work either (pocket money)

Try eBay for the silencer Vince as it looked to be a good source when I looked for the 2.5 :)

Oh no Vince, bad luck. Easily done too, the amount of roads where the speed limit changes is quite unfair. Us car nuts need to live in Swindon of all places. No speed cameras, cheap parking, fair, yes fair traffic wobbles....almost sounds like motoring nirvana!

I kind of have to be careful too, driving an auto, it wants to be in third to shut it up, but that means going about 40! A slight pain that.
I can't go to the NEC either due to other commitments. Quite liked to have gone this year.

I will be doing some car stuff tomorrow too. Might even start on the rear subframe.
Shock horror :o ...only two months late!!

Better late than never Russ ;)

I woke up this morning feeling full of flu....not good as its the only day of the weekend forecast to be dry

Not to be put off, I pulled the sodden car cover off the xm to find out that its about as good at keeping water off as not having one in the first place, so ive ditched it into the garden for now.

I had parked it nose down to allow me to jump start it when required but that meant that there was the risk of the sunroof leaking in......with the above comment, what I found today was a gearlever gaitor full of water, and the steering wheel rim showing signs of moulding :|

Ive now dried out the interior and de moulded the steering wheel. Ive parked it the usual way nose up on the drive so the sunroof drains properly, and gave it a hose down to clean off some muck. I think ill leave it exposed over winter....at least that way any dampness can evaporate and I can keep an eye on the interior through the windows ;)

The engine started after a few attempts on jump start and I gave it some citaerobics whilst letting the engine run up to temp. I also whacked the heater on full and run the blower motor on full to clear out any moisture in the dash that might have accumulated there. Both front windows were operated also to keep the regulators free....I even took it for a cheeky run up the street and back to give the brakes a workout.....everything was fine apart from a tad of brake squeal when in reverse.....

If its the xm anniversary next year id better have this back on the road for then if I can :P

All sounds good Vince. Interesting what you say about the cover. I think leaving it off is a very wise decision.

I have been good to my word and been pottering away with the mine. Investigating the most weirded leak yet. I get water coming through the passenger sun visor fixing. Yet everything else is dry. Totally lost with this one! ;)
But I have to say, mine is looking okay under the back. Will still do some under sealing in the week maybe, but it's not as bad as I thought it was. :D

Hope you feel better soon. :)

If the car is going to sit all Winter outside it might be worth raising the suspension and placing some blocks under it to keep it high and take load off the tyres.

If the car is higher it will keep drier underneath.

Theres NO Question on that Vince! I should hope to have the 24v ready for CXM, but ill have the 2.1 D auto on the road way before then..

Thats something I think I should do with my 24v for the next few months, I want to pull her out the bush's and have her stood up high. Ive got a breathable car cover, but Im not convinced they do the right thing or not.. :?
