so, it still has a Renault DCi engine!!! Watch those turbos Vince, and DO NOT obide by the long service intervals! Thats what killed a lot of the early DCI engines in the Laguna 2... They had 18k service scedule, but the oil would only last about 12k... Fully Synthetic oil too..
Renault owns 44% of Nissan and Nissan owns 15% of Renault.

All diesel engines in Nissan/Renault are Renault designed (except the V6DCi), and all petrol engines are Nissan designed.

Nissan Sunderland has the design, build and test facility for the new Nissan Leaf and makes all the batteries for it.

Come 2016 there will be a Nissan designed petrol engine in a Daimler/Mercedes car and in return all Nissan (and Renault?) automatic boxes will be built in Mexico under license from Daimler/Mercedes using DM technology.

Oh well...wherever its made and however its built i will still have the xm for more "personal" transport ;)

Ive just scored another Pallas Job too in a few weeks....another Traction Avant in black, with just 18000 miles on the clock from new  It is down in northamptonshire so that will be one hell of a days work, but will get me in the mood for the citroen shows this year :P

Well...i decided today was going to be an xm day so got up early this morning and cleaned the interior up....and that means all the nooks and crannies cleaned with an artists brush and a cloth. The upside of this was i discovered that the hydractive switch underneath held a bulb to illuminate the sport and auto scripting. Awesome as i love little things like that. The bulb was replaced and illumination restored :) I wonder how many years have gone by with the bulb not functioning?

After its clean up inside, i nipped Linda into Manchester...now for a while now she has been on my case making quips about selling the xm on now that i have a company car....ive brushed it off but this morning it came to a head....for her  She walked out of the house and i was sat in the xm with the engine running, she said "oh we arent going in that are we"? ...well i saw red at that point and replied robustly that this car was the one which she loved when it took us to Hastings on our holidays and never let us down, and is the one that will now only rise in value rather than depreciate, the one which has more style and soul than any new bloody car, and to top it off...its mine! and much more than just a box with 4 wheels to take stuff from a to b.
I continued to tell her that i am a car person and she isnt but that doesnt give her the right to disrespect what im interested in......

Needless to say, we discussed it amicably a bit further and she agreed that the xm is staying, but that i will stump the money for the car tax, mot and repair costs via the car work i do on the side. Its fine by me asi pay for everything on the car anyway! Dont think she is going to be broaching the subject again anytime soon ;)

THE XM LIVES ON!!! Long live the xm 8-)

Non car people.....do my head in!

A bit opposite for me here vince.. I keep threatening to rid the xantia for something newer and Sarah pulls a face.. Awww cant we keep the xantia it's comfy reliable and you (as in me) have fixed her... Put an xm on the road as a hobby car.. She keeps out of it really...

Nice result vince!! :-)

I'd have one just because it's a bit wacky and different...
Interesting remark: my other half and me were devided on this issue (our local car parts shop is next to the Nissan dealer) I 'm with you Jim but the other half hates it. but I would never buy one.

Be carefull with the steering wheel of the quashqai and clutches are a pain on them as well :) This particular model helps me in driving old cars, having been heard of the reliability of this Nissan model. Having said that, they sell well.

Interesting Jaap. I must admit I don't know the reputation of the Qashqai, I assumed it was very good. But clearly Renaults efforts have blighted this model too.

My in laws didn't trust their elderly toyota to drive all the way to Switzerland with the family. Instead they took their recent Nissan Q but didn't get far. Stranded with clutch problems that apparently is quite some job to change. Including repatriation it cost them a lot of money and they ended up taking the Toyota which made the trip and back no problem...

Ha, what does that tell you.

I did look the reliability history of the model up, and well nothing major really, but one issue was a missing pin in the steering, which meant it could become loose and effect steering. Others were suspension troubles. But all these are recall jobs and not a terminal design problem, unless of course you include the Renault Derv units.
