Well, I dont think Im completely stupid, or dont know what im dooing... when I checked the car when jacked up, the car was on normal setting...

But hey, what do I know....

I put the car on normal setting, with the jack under the subframe so I could bounce the wheel as in normal setting, and this would show excess strut top movement, and there was none.

I was also pretty sure the scuttle edge was bent slightly downwards...

You cannot make a judgement about the gap between sphere top and scuttle whole on Highest. This must be done at Normal height. Russ is right - the strut tops undergo significant upward extension when on maximum height.
It is extremely unlikely that the scuttle edge would be bent: that would be clutching at straws!

Paul checked it on normal setting, I too also think that the scuttle edge could be misaligned.

My experience is that the scuttle top is easily bent about.
It is short thin bent metal with very little strength.

Evening all..... :)

Ive been wondering how my old motor has been coming along now that christmas is out of the way ;)

Im glad the panic about the strut tops is over....When I got it off Paul he said they were perfect, so I sealed them underneath and painted them on top to protect them from rust. The car was very well looked after whilst I owned it and it was never abused ramming over speed bumps etc, so I would have been surprised if they had gone bad ;)

Glad to see its coming along nicely Ray :D
