The 16 valve sexy is going very well still but allow me to ask a question, please.

Do cars in general in the UK, get tax free after a certain age

Yes, basically anything built up until 31 December 1972 qualifies as historic and therefore free. Note built and not registered. Technically a car could be built in December 1972, registered in 1995 say, and still be eligible for free tax..

Until 1997 I think it was there was a 25 year rolling exemption so as soon as a car was 25 years old it was tax free. The new incoming government stopped it and fixed the date at the end of 1972 as the cutoff.

I believe in the latest budget that date has been changed to the end of 1973 to take effect in 2014. I don't believe it's going to be rolling though...

I hate my job today....:-{

I was asked to move this 'relic' (OK, she' just a bit older than the SeXy...) away.

I told them to be patient because I really really wasn't busy!! :)

Bit of good craic here though, with the GUINESS delivery truck driver... MUST start a new sexy DIESEL topic soon :)

I sympathise with you Jim.

But some things are just worth it, as I just stated!

Some customers are really cool! :)

some, I wouldn't mind to get lost in the bog for ever!!!! :)
But at the end of the day: going home in a really really nice car (as for me, that joy started with my trusty ol' slow 2cv.....) makes good a lot, especially where I live,. with not traffic jams...just slow tourists and even slower tractors! :)

Driving a XM diesel now, for a change! With sunroof! And sun this morning too! :) Happy days!!!

Jaap, you paint a delightful picture :D

The only problem with my job really is that it's inside in an open-plan office that has a rubbish aircon that's either boiling you or freezing you... Never a happy medium ever. And if anyone has a cold or some other illness then the whole office ends up with it. The building suffers 'Sick Building Syndrome' to a terrible extent.

I'm a natural outdoor person who hates being trapped indoors under artificial climate and light.

Jim you are right about the tax exemption. It will change to 1973. But you can tell this legislation was set up fools and non car lovers. How can you say one car from 1973 is a classic and then the same car and model from 1974 isn't. Very unfair. But what else do expect from a Labour government.

I do believe though, that Practical Classics have a campaign brewing about this subject and trying to get the rolling 25 yr exemption reintroduced. They are biding their time apparently.....How successful it will be remains to be seen. I would imagine it will fall on deaf ears.

So Jaap, your using the Derv. We need to see it, get some pics up!! glad it is going well though, nothing like a waft home after a days toil. :)

Sorry to hear Jim, quite surprised the Sick building syndrome is still condoned in the UK with all it's health and safety rules and regulations. I know about it and it is terrible to say the least.

So on request and to cheer folks up, some pampa grass (super low maintenance! ) and heather (if you really really look) pictures.

What does Derv stand for, anyone.

I hope to have some good times out of these vehicles still; they are here to be used I am afraid. Wish me luck!

Assuming this isn't a trick question, DERV stands for Diesel Engined Road Vehicle.
