Forum upload facility

It is still really difficult, most of the time, to upload files to the forum. Even moderate size JPG photos often just won't upload, and text files (eg Word) usually get an "empty file" on-screen response.

This seemed to have happened just before and since the last server migration/update. It is now preventing a good few of us from posting technical detail.

There is the workaround of using Photobucket, or similar, but this has the downside that if the hosting site file is taken down or lost somehow, the post on our Forum acquires empty spaces. Where something technical or complicated is being illustrated, then this can render the often carefully written post almost meaningless.

Can someone take a look again, please?

I think the chances of Photobucket being offline are remote compared to the chances of this site being down.

I have managed to upload small files this evening but I agree with Chris that it is often a problem! I seem to recall I brought the issue up recently and Ciaran planned to make some adjustments. Regards, Matthew T.

It's not that Photobucket is likely to fall down or vanish (although anything is possible), but using them or a similar site relies on the author continuing to keep the images available in their albums, and that can't be guaranteed. Far better, with a highly technical site like ours, to maintain the integrity of posts by having the posts and their included attachments stored on our servers.

To see what depleted posts look like, you only have to delve back into the old .com XM site.
