4 XM’s apparantly wasn’t enough, so today I picked up a late Y3 2.1 Turbo D12 BVA from 17/12-1993.
It was revived from a barn 4 years ago, whatever rust was fixed, some body parts resprayed, all new chrome trim, new headlights and…… a brand spanking new engine… that sounds so crisp and emits absolutely NO smoke.
Nowadays it needs a bit of TLC, such as new locks and I’ll change the interior for grey velour to a beige leather interior and all black carpets and black headliner, sunvisors etc. as the current seats look a bit tatty and the gearknop is SO ready to be binned 🥾
The ZF HP18 slushmatic changes af bit funny, but I’ll change the oil to see whether it helps… otherwise I’ll source a better one (does a HP20 from a 1998 ES6 fit?)
The digital A/C needs a refill and the electrics some attention (the cabin fan didn’t work most of my 3 hours drive home.
It doesn’t have the computer with Range, consumption etc… Can it be retrofitted from another car easily?
Oups… I did it again

Re: Oups… I did it again
LOL. well done, star performer.
Apart from the split in the drivers seat those Sonata seats look in good condition. I would keep the velour seats, more comfortable than leather. If you do change them, I could probably find a home for the covers.
An Hp-20 wouldn't be an easy installation as it is electronic and was never fitted to diesels. Its also fragile compared to an Hp-18.
What do you mean by funny changes of the gearbox? Hp-18 are road speed governed so won't change up until a minimum speed for each gear has been attained and change down once road speed falls below that speed. e.g. 4th gear and torque converter lock-up won't happen below 80Kmh, irrespective of how lightly the accelerator is pressed. This makes them rather buzzy when tied to a diesel engine, but does mean the gearbox is always in the right gear for acceleration.
The shifts are controlled by the pressure cable and the governor. Governor seals are known to split causing unusual shifts.
If it doesn't slip when in gear the basic gearbox is sound.
The auto box does make the engine consume more fuel, but they are very good on a longer distance drive.
A 2.1Td shouldn't emit visible smoke, they are a very good engine.
You can't fit a trip computer, the engine control is mechanical, no electronics.
Just drive it, put diesel in it and enjoy the drive.
That colour looks like Triton Green (Ert). It's virtually the same spec and must be a close Rp number (94 2.1SD A.RP 6218 ERT Triton Green), as the green one I had, except yours has climate control and presumably no sunroof. All UK Xm to 1998 came with a sunroof...
Looks like you're filling up a the lorry pump. I used to as the fill rate is much faster than standard pumps. When filling with 80 litres on a cold night, one wants to get back inside as soon as possible. Many cars cant accept the high fill rate.

Re: Oups… I did it again
Lorry pump - BINGO! I bought the car from a good friend who lives not far from a Shell petrolstation, that sells GTL fuel, and I love what it does to a diesel car (makes it more quiet and no smoke) so I filled it with about 60 liters before setting off for my 300 kilometers home.
At first the cabin fan wasn’t working, but suddenly it came on which was nice because the previous owner had a chickenfarm… And the car currently smells like it If (when) I change the interior I’ll keep the covers as I know they’re not something you find everyday…
I suspect the ABS is out of use at the moment, and though stumping on the brakes the car just brakes straight and very good… Suspension feels like it should and even the Sport Suspension works. I think that thetyres have to much grip, so the ABS (if working) did not come on… but the left digital panel is dead and the ABS light does not come on on start-up… And it also has no low beam, which made the last kilometer quite exciting as it came home after sundown…. Luckily the front fog lights are working and I coasted along with the other drivers on motorway… hoping not to meet a nosy rozzer
I’ll change the gearbox oil, and have a look on the valvebox and clean whatever can be cleaned… the cruise control has been removed and some manual cold start handle has been fitted… Will restore the original funtions!
I really didn’t need this car, but seller said that a bloke had asked about buying it and using it for winter driving, and he’s somlone who only fixed things that are vital for getting it through a MOT….
Today will be a day of cleaning… and change the colour on all 4 upright metal trim in the doors from silver’ish the satin black… and the go to a Citroën car meeting with friends.

Re: Oups… I did it again
Haven’t had time to use my spanners, but did find a bit of time to give it clean before putting it in the barn…
Funny thing is, that before I picked it up, a very dear friend told me he was visiting someome who had a green XM modelcar and it was for sale…. Told him to buy it for me, and it turned out to be the exact same colour Now I know which alloys to put on the D12
Anyway… another friend gave up on his XM-project and gave me his car.. so now I have a original radio for this car along with a lot of other bits…. The rest of this on will be given to another friend who needs a bonnet and some doors, and then it’s off to the scrapper….

Those wheels look like Pug 405 wheels to me (except that they're 5-stud of course).

Italia wheels were the early S1 alloys, originally diamond cut, but last longer if painted two colour.
You have a mandarin-Nacre car with black wings, I have the mirror. I would actually prefer the car in mandarin-Nacre, to black.
Your spares car appears in good condition, I have genuinely taxed worse.
