Great Jim! Exercise is a remedy for so much. Even Alzheimer patients, who sometimes are left totally passive in homes, improve noticeably when kept physically active. Just walking can do miracles, I do believe in it.

I'm really believing in that too Jaap. Here we are early on a Saturday after a very lively week and I'm still good. I'm up early as I'm off in the XM in a bit to see dad in Somerset. Possibly the last long journey for the XM this year before being laid up for the winter.

Normally on a Saturday after a week like I've just had I'd be barely alive...

Speaking to a fellow swimmer at the pool yesterday mourning he was saying when he started he could barely do a few lengths and now on a typical morning he does 100 if he has the time.

I'm finding I really look forward to my morning swim. It's not a chore by any means and very enjoyable.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for letting me compare the cabin temp fan connection, now mine works as it should do and the air con doesn't turn on all by its self now. that will teach me to remember where the plugs go. How did the breadmaking go?

That's excellent news Norman :D It was really lovely to see you and Micky the other day :D I'm not so sure Fluffball was quite so pleased to see Micky but she soon got over it

Two loaves have been made since and today I took one down to Somerset for dad. he was very pleased with it...

In fact it was a very good day indeed. The XM made light work of the trip and went magnificently well. So well in fact that I'm reconsidering my earlier decision to lay her up over winter. I think that will now happen to the Activa rather than the XM...

Norman, and everyone else on here too, you're more than welcome to pop in any time you're passing. Just give me a call to check I'm about and I'll get the kettle on...

As it's my day off today I walked to the pool this morning, did 14 lengths and then walked back home...

Before that I'd already had a good bit up upper body exercise by kneading a batch of wholemeal stoneground bread dough for a good 15 minutes.

Later I'll be walking to town and back for a dental appointment...

It's getting better :D

Congrats Jim :)

I've been meaning to get on my bike for a bit when i get home this week but servers have decided thus far not to allow it :(

Are you working upto a set point of lengths or just slowly increasing to a level you feel happy.

That's some important improvement, last time I recall you only did 3 laps. Before you know it we all travel to Citro Jim to have our timing belts and pumps and what have we, done :) On second thought that's far too easy, how about some engine rebuilds :) Good for the upper body and brains too, no doubt. ps rest assured, I did not blow any engines today nor do I have any XM troubles at the moment. They are even water proof :)

I'm, really quite delighted Jaap. The improvement seems almost exponential. I stopped at 14 but could have done more; I didn't want to push it too hard.

Since then I've walked to the dentist and back in the pouring rain but did take the Activa out for a pleasure spin. It's not moved in two weeks and whilst it's not bad weather I like use it as often as I can. Soon though I'll be laying it up for the winter and it then won't move until the weather is nice an warm once again.

I'm hoping all this fitness will eventually enable me to do more and more and hopefully get me back somewhere near my old self. So basically Will, that's the aim. I shall keep on pushing the lap count as it's a good indicator of where I am fitness-wise.

We had a lecture from a doctor yesterday who explained that doing too much resting - which at times is all you want to do - is dangerous because it de-conditions the body and your fitness and ability to do any real activities decreases and decreases almost until you can do nothing. A programme of getting back fit again reverses that. Has to be taken gently though...

If I can get back to being able to do what I used to be able to do on cars then it'll be really well worth it. When I can do what Paul has done recently on that 2.1 XM of his that Charles is having I'll know I've achieved it. So Paul, you are my benchmark ;)

I guess it means I'll have to keep up the exercise and fitness regime for the rest of my life now. Not a bad thing I guess...

Hygienist reported a significant improvement in my dental health today as well. It's all good :D
