Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
The 2.0i auto does 125mph, the V6 auto does 133mph, the V6 has the largest tyres, additional width and i think sidewall, enough (without working it out) to make up 8mph.
Citroen technical info also states identical final drive and gear ratios across the board for early petrol models.

EDITED Speeds. Apologies, I had the Estate speeds previously.Dean wrote:The 2.0i auto does 125mph, the V6 auto does 133mph, the V6 has the largest tyres, additional width and i think sidewall, enough (without working it out) to make up 8mph.

D
According to the Citroen owners handbook, the 2.0i Auto does 122mph, the V6 auto does 136mph.
Tyres are 195/60-15 and 205/60 - 15 which means a 2% circumference increase for the 205/60-15 tyres, yet the vehicle speed increases by 11.4%.
Unless the v6 revs significantly higher something doesn't add up.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
The autobox reduction gear is different between the 4 pot and v6 petrol.
56/55 vs 59/53.
Torque multiplication 2.66:1 vs 1.88:1.
Speedo drive 25/21 vs 25/20.
Gearbox references:
2.0i - ZF 1050 000 093, Citroen 2 GZ 80
V6 LHD - ZF 1050 000 092, Citroen 2 GZ 78
V6 RHD - ZF 1050 000 097, Citroen 2 GZ 79
Source XM 0 No. 8 dated 31 July 1990.
Have just looked up the 2.1 in XM 0 No.11 dated 29 Nov 1991.
It had all changed in 15 months.
Standard Citroen minefield.
2.0i - Model code Y3AC/A
Gearbox ref: 2 GZ 85 - ZF 1050 000 104.
Details not given - will search to add here.
2.1 TD - Model code Y3AK engine P8A
Gearbox ref: 2 GZ 87 - ZF 1050 000 118.
Add details later.
2.1TD - Model code Y3AK engine PHZ
Gearbox ref: 2 GZ 91 - ZF 1050 000 132.
Add details later.
V6 LHD - Model code Y3AG/A engine SFZ and Y3AD engine S6A
Gearbox ref: 2 GZ 88 - ZF 1050 000 106.
Details not given.
V6 RHD - Model code Y3AG engine SFZ
Gearbox ref: 2 GZ 90 - ZF 1050 000 108.
Details not given.
XM 0 No 12 dated 30 Sept 1991
This document has a nice table listing the differences.
It seems the changes were made after road testing the first vehicles made in a particular production run.
It also matches speedo drive type to gearbox type.
Too much to edit in so that will have to do for now.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
Final drives are the same at 18/77 as are all the gear ratios.
Reduction gear is a separate defined factor.
No idea what all this means, just read it in the manual.
Perhaps I just have a load of waste paper to get the wood burner going.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
This is interesting, the reduction gear must be the two cogs behind the end cover that transmitts drive from the gerbox to the differential, this is rather interesting as if the ratios were altered here it would be very simple for someone who for instance, lives on a small island and has no need for 136mph, to lower the gear ratio's by fitting the setup from a 2.0i giving much better acceleration, which could be changed very quickly and simply depending on requirements...........
This is more good news that potentially goes in my favour

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
Hi Dean
Glad you can make sense of it.
Is the same likely to apply to manual gearboxes and the final drive.
Have you a copy of XM 0 no 8?
