Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
That is good news about the widespread compatibility between the models Dean, although I thought the 2.0i and 3.0i engine ecu plugs and autobox ratios were different? I think your two crankshaft pullies may have the same diameter on each wheel, but just be differently styled, with a splay rather rather than a shoulder on the earlier type between the inner and outer. In relation to the parts you mentioned, for some while I have taken to sourcing in France and Germany where there is still reasonable availability. Regards, Matthew T.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
The ECU plugs might be different but that is on the engine loom so won't matter, the gear ratios are the same on all petrol models says Citroen and I've not seen any evidence they are not he same ratio.
Parts availability is good over the puddle but for how long?

There were 33,000 xm left on the road in France a couple of years ago, so supply shouldn't be a problem.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
That's a surprisingly healthy number. It would be quite good fun to do a scrap yard holiday in France for Xm bits and bobs. The few Matthew and I visited in France last year had enough cars with usable parts.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
Yes, in truth it's never as straight forward as it seems...your lucky with your experience. Many other considerations as you mention make it difficult.Dean wrote:......Sort of, its that easy to put a V6 into a late model 8v with Auto box and A/C, it would not be so easy with a manual or 16v.
Also i have to say this is a project purely for doing a project, it will more than likely ruin the value of the vehicle and make a bullet proof reasonably economical and simple to work on car a complete pig of a vehicle (in my opinion) to live with.
Also there is a shortage of engines, 3.0 PRV's are sought after for all earlier PRV equiped vehicles and any that have not been scrapped are horded, then of course if you get an engine and gearbox the real trouble will start with the V6 specific ancillary components you need like ECU's and rad hoses........
D
Thing is Dean, you have a sense of realism about the whole thing... yep it might be more difficult to own, but it will be that one drive, usually on a balmy summers evening, when it's all working perfectly and it will all make sense! Much like owning an Alfa Romeo....

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
That is a good point about the wiring Dean and I am reassured about the gearbox. I have another spare 2.0i turbo autobox that I did not think I would be able to use complete! The ECU plugs might be different but that is on the engine loom so won't matter, the gear ratios are the same on all petrol models says Citroen
Ah yes Will but how many S1V6?There were 33,000 xm left on the road in France a couple of years ago, so supply shouldn't be a problem

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
The transmission valve settings are likely to be different, even if the ratios are the same, to suit the torque characteristics of each engine.
My experience is that about 50% of XMs have disappeared from French roads in the past 2 or 3 years. The NFP parts situation is as bad as in the UK, and non-DIY owners can't afford to have them repaired. Another factor is that you can't legally sell a car for spares or repair in France, once the CT (MOT) has expired, it can only be sold to a registered recycler, so there are very few cars available to be fixed up, and the supply of parts cars is quite limited.

When it all works
you poor deluded fool Russ!
Dont forget Matthew, the ratios are the same but the valve block will have differences as will the T/converter and the bell housing case is different, the speedo drive is different as well to cater for the larger wheels the V6 has. That reminds me i will need to use my prestiges speedo drive.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
Does the Mr Cross was born a v6 rev significantly higher than the 2.0i, if so, how is the car any faster. The difference in tyre size isn't enough to make the difference.
Are you sure the final drive ratio is the same?
