My active was cat c, the previous owner had the car written off when the door got dented in a car park, his insurers then refused to continue cover, I insured it but almost all wanted extra to insure a cat write off, I got around it by not valaunteering exxxtra information other than what the online form required. Same with imports, they cost more to insure and some won't insure rhd or not.

Well I thought I had updated this..

she wrote off.. and bought back. She was a D I think so didnt even need a VIC check..

however she sat and just sat outside mums since untill two weeks ago when the MOT ran out.

but since there was a fairly obvious exhaust blow there was no chance of an mot pass. So decsion made I decided to get her up to the farm.

The exhaust blow is from the rear bank to pipe join. The bolt passes through a cupped washer in the manifold. The cup has rotted away and alowed the bolt through and therefore letting the pipe sit scewif and causing the blow. So that will need sorting. Ive decided to SORN her for the winter and while thats so pay attention to her get the door swapped after the accident and any other panels that need it and get her mot ready for next years X rally at start of the year.

so.. for now untill jobs start... th th th ats all folks...

I had exactly this problem with my rhd 24v Paul after driving from Scotland to within about fifty miles from home the car suddenly began sounding like a tank!! That seems like a good plan to lay her up over the winter months! With regards, Matthew T.

Ok.. not been to this for a while. Her mot ran out september and she had a serious exhaust blow near the front which at the time I had no idea where from.. so. With othe bolt through atd to move her from my mums to the farm.. which is where she sat for the next 4 months... untouched too.. though I did have a look to id the blow. The blow is from the rear bank manifold to main pipe join. The prv has seperate manifold to pipe connections effectively two pipes that go down to one fiuther down...

anyway.. what has happened is there is a bolt a spring a washer and nut.. the bolt fits into a slighgly chamfered cup.. it appears this cup has rusted away.. letting the bolt through on one side.. and so blowing.

but today.. fri jan 29th ... she started first time..but I was slightly alarmed to see the inside all covered in mould where my hands have been in contact.. so a quick going over with baby wipes... we shall see next week if ifs worked and she looked all good.

had a look all around her underside and im happy to report no holes have appeared.. so subject to sorting some tyres.. tidying her up and sorting the exhaust we should be good to go!

I took some interior shots but photobucket is down for maintenance apparently..

Well.. Rally season is looming.. Its that time to stop everything else and get this girl sorted..

So she is now in repair parking area. The first task is the blowing exhaust..

Then a general clean up...

Front end up.. To get under next time i get the chance..

You should bring her up to me once she's back on the road, I'll help you give her a good pre-rally clean

Lol.. Thats not a lot.. But get rid of autum leafs on the wiper blades and clear out the scuttle

Tidy up the inside a bit.. The wipe down with baby wipes kept the mould away too..

Mathew as posted above the blow is from the rear bank manifold to pipe join...
