Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
That is helpful advice and thanks to all and as I have several mounts to install I may rig up a tool based on John's suggestion. It might even be possible to fit insitu with such a technique. Up until recently I had robbed good mounts off spare engines, but I then ran out and eventually managed to source correct replacement inserts. I have two loose pairs of top and bottom brackets and when I have the time I will prepare for future fitting. At least one of my cars still has a less than perfect lower mount. With regards, Matthew T.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
I like John's suggestion of bolt and plates/washers - compact and controlled, and do-able in situ if needed.
For bush removal, I've often resorted to a junior hacksaw inserted through the centre tube, and sawn though it, the rubber and then the outer ring. Bush then collapses, and can be knocked out. Damage to the mount is negligible.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
For bush removal add a short length of steel tube a bit larger than the bush.
I recently used that method to recover rear sub-frame front bushes.
Some fought but eventually gave up with a sudden bang.
The threads on the nut and bolt suffered enough wear to need replacing with new after eight or so bushes.
The XM tool boxes have a number of these tools in different sizes.
So not an original idea by me.
Very surprised how effective and how much force could be generated.

Engine mount 0- Dean 1
Pressing it in whilst fitted to the car is an issue as there is not enough clearance between the outside of the casting and the subframe, I could of done it using the old bush as a mandrel but I needed two nuts for the long bolt which stupidly I didn't have.
How did I do it? Well I cut the old bush casing with a hacksaw blade, cleaned the housing face with a wire cup brush and secured the old bush outer to the new bush with a jubilee clip and hammered it in with a sledge hammer, this took some time as laying under the car holding the bush with one hand and swinging the sledge with the other is tough going, the whole thing start to finish took just under 3 hrs so not too bad.
Engine doesn't flop about in the breeze now but I think the top torque bush seems a bit soft and is starting to tear also so I may do that if I can find one.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
If it were to help, rubber bits of bushes can be removed by pushing a large red-hot nail/bolt into the rubber, to destroy it. Smelly job, but possible, leaving the steel behind for cutting/collapsing.
Using a small hot nail (flat head) is also a way of removing awkward valve-stem seals from their guides, when they can't we hooked out.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
Well done Dean... Another job you can do on mine then!
If the top mount is the same as a 2.1 like mine, that might be tricky to find. Citroen don't sell any of the parts for it. I hopefully, if it works, will be changing it to a mk2 version.

Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
I changed to a mk2 before but it transmitted too much vibration and I can't figure out why, I got another early mount from a forum member and its OK for now but it is very old and rather soft so I'm not sure what to do.
