Re: My XM "The Boss"
Ray, my car was supplied with 9 months MoT and a fine pair of rotten front sills! You are not alone. I am still sorting out the rust and mine is good car that has been garaged for most of its life!!
The garage had fitted a brand new OS front wing. The fact that they fitted it over a hole in the sill and that the bottom fixing bolt was screwed into thin air obviously hadn't troubled the bodyshop. Likewise on the NSF wing the bottom fixing tab had rotted off so the bottom of the wing was fixed to the car by a spring steel clip pushed over the edge of the wing and the sill seam.
My rear subframe is basically sound but needs droping to allow repair of one of the mounting points.
All you can do is make list, decide the best/most logical order of tasks and crack on.
Plenty of support on the forum and people willing to help out with parts and knowledge as required.
Keep the faith.

That is the correct method of fitting the bottom edge.cxprestigeauto wrote: the NSF wing the bottom fixing tab had rotted off so the bottom of the wing was fixed to the car by a spring steel clip pushed over the edge of the wing and the sill seam.

That's the right attitude Ray. It just takes careful planning and effort as John says. If you're not on an urgent timeframe then you can take your time and do it right. Fair play to you for wanting to save the car, it does need some TLC for sure, but it's by no means a goner if you want to save it.

I found the paint code on page 3. It was hidden under 23 years of grime

Re: My XM "The Boss"
Lovely looking XM in a colour I'm not sure I'd seen before. Shame about the rust but it is repairable and at least the car is cosmetically smart (unlike my XM!)
I'm in the area if you fancy meeting to compare cars and notes. My car is a base model TD but my first XM was a SED auto.

Appearences can be deceptive Jonathan_dyane! It has lots of dings and will prob need a full re-spray, but it does look good after a good wash. We could host our own Cars & Coffee meet, but I'll have to put mine back together first
