My philosophy is that however much you pay for an XM its going to need work, by buying a cheap one and doing the work its going to cost a lot less than buying a good one - that is of course if you do the work yourself. My last two cost £150.00 and £250.00 respectivly and are now both on the road, one needed a clutch thrust bearing but had only done 77k on the engine, the other needed a couple of ABS sensors, a window motor and a few other odds and ends, actual cost to me less than £100.00.

The lack of pictures is a distinct turn off. I can't be that hard to just take a couple of shots of the inside and the engine bay. A few shots of the damage would be a good idea too. Either he doesn't want to sell it or has been nagged, er, sorry talked into it.

There is merit in that Peter, agreed.

I am a fussy bugger, and like to have my car spotless, and tidy. Perhaps that is what would put me off the cheap cheap cheap XMs.

It would be a waste of time for me, having a vehicle spotless and tidy, I use them to much. I have been carrying building material in the white estate - I have cleaned it out now though

Yes Series 1.5 models from K reg 1993 got ALL Colour coding, mirrors,

Only SE models were colour coded, lesser models still made do with unpainted plastic parts.

Thats what I was meant to say - SE S1.5's from 1993 were colour coded... but seeing as the TOPIC was about an SE - I didn't think it mattered.

Not sure...I hadn't noticed it until this thread and it's some distance for me too...nice mileage though...

Being honest, my delay is because I don't need another car at all and my time is pretty full already...but I keep looking at XM's..

Hi all

I'm thinking of trying for this one as the afair with the 2lt doesn't seem to be happening....

Book it for driving it at the MOT station, and take the way up North...

Problem is, what do I do if it breaks down on me on the way to Scotland -very probable for a car that has sat 5 years-. Probably buy AA relay on the spot? But will they still do it without MOT?

How do you find local flatbeds if u r stranded on the motorway at a random spot and your mobile doesn't browse the internet? I better take a copy of the yellow pages with me !
