My gauges have been sound, but when I bought a regassing rig and it blew the seal out at 80Bar gas pressure it literally stunned me. It took 24Hrs for my hearing to return.

I can well believe it Will, undoing a sphere fill plug with 50 bar makes a good woosh let alone sudden depressurisation at 80, would of woken the neighbours up I bet.
The gauge i bought for the tester has never been used, i disected it this evening, it wasnt soldered correctly. No big issue as due to the way im piping it up i need a rear entry gauge anyway.
Will be making up a stainless 3 sided cover with a slot for the jack handle and a viewing window for the gauge, should protect the user from any flying debris should the worst happen.

Thanks for the comments anyway, I've not built a sphere tester before but I'm hoping it will work out well.

The pressure tester looks good, nice and simple.

I wouldn't bother with a safety cage, the volume of liquid is so small and the risk so minimal.

My gauges were bought off Hawker Fluid (or something) on "the Bay", and have been fine.

My Nokians have this. But it has a row of numbers that wear off. Very handy though.
