The auto adjuster is built into the upper end of the cable where the spring is.

It is a conical sleeve with ball bearing gripper inside.

As the inner cable slides the bearings grip the shaft. The cable has to retreat fully at the top to make the release mechanism operate. You can see it press the spacer down a bit when the cable is fully relaxed.

A drop of light oil may free a sticky gripper mechanism.

No, the auto adjust is part of the cable but they are getting a bit thin on the ground now.

I would think the CX has a manual adjuster, probably on the gearbox end. I ran them for about 10 years but I can't remember.

Wonder if a Xantia one could be pressed into play if the pukka XM ones are a bit scarce now?

On my 21td my indy had tried 2 new clutch cables and they wouldn't fit -too short-. They resorted to remove the plastic bit that stops the clutch pedal, to give extra travel, and it went in. Weird or what?

Hmm doesn't this clutch-talk deserve a thread of its own ;)

I think I must have the only 2.1 with a light clutch, I thought it was broken when I bought it! Three or four years later its still light, I reckon someone must have fitted the wrong clutch.

Yeah, sorry about the clutch cable intrusion, lets call it quits on it?

Well, some of us know, the regret I did have selling this car but when the opportunity arose to have her back I HAD to jump on it.

With SPECIAL thanks to some of you who helped with this, I have got this 2.1 SD back with me, and sice it was with her last owner a few things had been done..

She had a new strut top (Cannot remeber which side now)
Towbar been wired up nicely and painted
Another heater matrix was fitted, but this has invertable knocked out the Temp guage..
The window on the drivers side had come out of its runner, I removed the clip and put it back in. Electrically it works, just needs another guide clip now.
Drivers Door card mauled during removal.. to a point of virtual destroyment..
A hole in the passener side cill needs welding up before she even sniffs the road again!

After getting her home, which we were lucky to have constant dry weather she has now sat while I clear up other things that need sorting and getting out the way! So once thats done, and we have a fresh MOT I shall put some latest pics up.

Will I sell again? Dont think I will, I want to enjoy her for a while now this time!
Projects:(eventually if theres any bodywork left)
