You'll be fine Erik, an XM might be a lot of trouble but very rarely do they really badly break down and strand you in the middle of nowhere. Only Xantias do that to me

Just give the car a good check before you set off and all will be good.

I'm looking forward to reading more of your adventures ;)

Roads in Sweden holds a very good standard; even the smaller ones.
All E-roads are mainly 2 lane M-roads, and tempo is easily 110 km/h.
The smaller roads has a speed limit of 80 - 90 - 100 km/h. Roads in the south is beeing saltet in winter. Stay away!! In the north you will find dry clean snow. Perfect for an XM, but remember winter tyres ;-)

It's a relative small country. Traffic is not as heavy as in GB and the air is clean...............outside the 3 biggest cities.

You're welcome, but take your own beer with you :-)

Well the MOT for the xm has hit a slight speed bump.....

Ive done the repair behind the airbox and im pretty pleased with it :) My idea of getting a factory mottled finish on it just isnt going to happen i dont think...the filler stuff is way too sticky and difficult to spread. Just getting a smooth finish on it is super difficult due too the small space im working in.

What i might do today is remove the airbox assembly so i can access it easier and then put another skim on it and go for a super smooth finish before painting it. Ill get it finished this weekend....

Anyway...the speedbump!....Ive had a good poke around the sills and found two areas around 4 inches a piece where it feels crunchy beneath the underseal....After the initial panick and pee'd off feeling ive decided ok these will need welding and repairing properly as the rest of the sills seem solid and its only two small areas. So, what i might do is effect a temporary repair with the same stuff ive done the inner wing with, then get it MOT'd. Then its free'er to drive to Paris Autos to get them to strip the temporary repairs back out and do a proper welding job on them.

They are classic citroen specialists and also have welding expertise on these cars so i know it will be better than anything i can do :P

Im reckoning though that if i save up £200 or so and drop it off to them, they can carry out the repairs and give the xm a good once over and perhaps change the front centre and accumulator spheres whilst its in 8-)

I'll see...a free £200 seems like rustling up a million pounds at the moment  Still once Linda gets back working then money will be more readily available :)

Sorry to hear about the sills Vince.. Still, it'll be a trivial job to someone like Paris Autos and I guess you can do the finishing when they've done the structural bits...

Vince are the rust points within 300mm of a seat belt, subframe or seat mounting point.
If not its not a MOT issue.

My entire o/s sill was corroded and the black ex XM sailed through its MOT without even an advisory. You could get lucky!

One area I reckon would be within that distance from the nsr jacking point. No biggy though, it's just time and money to put right. I've finished the inner wing repair...I'll post up some pictures later on : )

Sorry to hear of your rust issues Vince. Bad luck, but hopefully it's a straight forward fix. I keep a beady eye on mine, but I am sure my drivers side will need doing some time in the future.

I think Russ any owner of these marvellous machines will have some run ins with rust, but as the saying goes, you have to pay for your pleasure and for me I don't mind...I just don't have the immediate funds available to get stuff done, so I might have to just bodge a repair for now and then get a proper job done later...

Anyway....The inner wing repair is done and to be honest it doesn't look too bad at all, but the most important thing is its solid, rust free and ready to soldier on for years to come :)

This is what I found when I peeled back the seal sealant which had gone crunchy and how ive fixed it

Then cleaned up and kurust applied in droves

Sealant applied...I smoothed it abit more after this shot

Then undercoated and painted after a very poor attempt to recreate a factory finish  What the hell though at least its fixed :P
