Re: Rob's SED
With the considerable help of Chris Andrews MOReen has been given a good going over prior to an MOT later this week. Oil and filter changed, air filter changed, ATF changed and filter cleaned, brakes checked and passed fit for service and even the undertray refitted after 18 months in my shed. Even the electrical gremils are in hiding tonight...
If all goes well, then I might test the market, I rather fancy another V6... Common sense, however, tells me that it won't get much better than this.

Re: Rob's SED
Well I think I have got everything working ready for the MOT tomorrow. Even gave it a vacuum out - too hot and sunny so far to wash it.
Very nervous about it as I have spending plans and don't want to have to divert funds.

Re: Rob's SED
Failure today on brakes and steering rack gaiter. Not too surprised about the poor braking effort as we had noted the rears were looking worn but was unaware of a steering gaiter split.
Can anyone clue me in on parts availability and difficulty of doing the steering gaiter? It is the nearside that has been failed.
Many thanks

Steering rack replacement 16/4/2009 by Dean in the self help.
Gaiter both sides can be done in situ but the nearside is the more difficult one.
Use genuine Citroen boots.

Re: Rob's SED
I second that, Rob. I changed the steering ram on your old red estate and the nearside boot. I used a cheap replacement, it didn't stay on and I ended up buying the Citroen one anyway. Unlike the cheap replacements, the correct item has the rims inside the gaiter that fit into the grooves on the steering rack. Note that the ram has to be lifted off to get the boot on. On the 2.5 this means disconnecting the pinion from the steering column and unbolting the steering rack from the chassis so that it can be tilted enough to get the ram off its mountings. Hopefully not quite as bad on your model. I just happened to have the front exhaust pipe off at the time, this made the job do-able. Good luck.

Re: Rob's SED
I managed to do mine on an "R" reg 2.5 insitu.
Just the ram connection bolts were loosened at the back end and the ram unbolted and lifted off the stud the boot end.

Re: Rob's SED
Gave the Clio a bit of a clean today, and thought it was looking rather good half way through its twentieth year:

As soon as the XM has got through its MOT it will be the Clio next. No doubt they will find issues, but to be honest I have no idea what they will be. Everything seems to work - famous last words!
