If its been sat for a long while Paul, it might be a good idea to get some plastic trim feed product and start treating the exterior plastics....if they are typically faded light grey that is.....it takes a few applications over a few days to start them on their way back to black.....the front a pillar trims respond well to the same treatment

If you do plan on getting something ideally buy Meguiars trim restorer cream or Autoglym bumper care (green square logo). Most of the other stuff isn't up to the job os restoring faded plastics....especially aerosol products

Well Ive arranged something with a garage just behind the shop....SC Auto electrics. They mainly carry out turbo and engine conversions to Renaults and love French cars ....when I spoke to them today on the phone a guy in the back said "what's he got?"....when the guy told him "a mark 1 citroen xm" I overheard....."Oh aye yes get it round !"

They always have a queue of megane and clio sports models outside and they are up for the detailing pay off idea so its shaping up nicely.....

Will (kingp) has kindly offered his help on getting the xm to Bolton and back (thanks Will) so all being well Im going to aim for perhaps next week or the week after and try to get it over to them....that's if I can get another tyre for it

Caravan fronts take a right battering from road spray and general flick up so maybe give it an extra layer of seal to help it as the fibreglass is a buggr as it gets older for dirt :/

I do not have a garage or under cover. I DO have an XM Car cover though which can go on her once done!

One lives in Lancashire, one in Wales - I wait with baited breath for that one dry day you get.

Well, the xm is coming along nicely

It now has a brand new Pirelli P6000 fitted on the drivers side front and ive just won a second one on ebay, again brand new never fitted, for the princely sum of £10
when it comes to tyres I think ill always be buying them from ebay....top notch tyres for buttons money

This week it will be ready for the cv boot job and MOT pre inspection and then the test itself....

Do the side windows need to work for a MOT? The bloody switch is playing up again and the passenger side back one needs a new regulator fitting. To be honest I bought it from Paul with the rear window not opening and it had a new MOT so fingers crossed its not an issue.....if it is I have a replacement manual reg in the shed ive just never fitted

I would say as long as the fronts and in particular the drivers is working it should be fine. Some cars only have those pop out windows, or they are fixed. Like the Ds4 in the rear.
I have no idea if the windows need to work to pass the MOT.

No windows do not need to work!!

Only the four doors need to open properly and no broken door handles.

vince ill have a manual window or two for you from the last 2.1 td base I broke and from the 2.1 td auto project thats getting electric windows fitted so we can sort that out to make right now..

If its just the switch that's playing up, then it can be quite easy to fix.

Remove switch from armrest
Put large sheet of white paper on table (just in case bits fall out of switch)
insert thin flatbladed object (such as wrong end of a nailfile) near centre of rocker by pivot
Prise the rocker button out GENTLY from its pivot housing at one side
Repeat on other side
Remove rocker button
Carefully observe where parts fit (possibly take a picture to aid reassembly)
Remove metal bits
Clean metal bits with fine emery paper
Reassemble
Switch now works perfectly!
