Hi Russ,

A replacement gaitor shouldn't be too hard to come across should it? Perhaps easier than painting yours...?

Hope to see your fine steed at shows this year....im planning on making it to them ;)

 thanks Vince. Once it has stopped leaking fuel and can steer in a straight line, it will be at shows. Ds rally I might have to nick the C5 though. Depends how quickly it is sorted out.

I have actually found new gaiters on ebay for about £10 so might treat it to a new one, depending on quality mind! :D

For a tenner you cant go wrong....most gaitors are around that money and decent quality so why not?

If the leather is thin you can always fit a new one over your old one so it adds support ;)

You spit mine, how is that possible :( Just looked at that steering house rubber, it's bugging me how that can perish. I can't figure that one out..

Yeah, your one Jaap. It was perfect, not a hair line anywhere. I carefully fitted yesterday, and went out this afternoon and the thing has split on the top. A round semicircle like one. So sorry, I am really miffed. I think my car has it in for me at the mo.

:D :D :D

I'm happy, cos I have finally fixed a small insignificant thing that was driving me nuts. Since I got the car, the drivers door puddle light has never worked. After much investigation, i found the connector pins had totally corroded away.
So door card off, connector inside the door off and found the wire and it's offending corrosion. Attached a new wire and connectors and at first it looked like a total failure, but just went out to the car opened the door and it works!!!

So no more wet feet in the dark!

I have had a interesting reply from Kingas (Strut top chap) about polyurethane steering couplings. They say they can rebuild them for £80 using the old metal fixings + VAT + shipping. So there is a solution.
There are no new XM rubber steering couplings in the country apparently.

Russ, I started to contemplate another, only slightly more involved solution to the switch illumination problem. A small circuit board that fits into the cavity of the blue gadget, with the SMD LED and resistor mounted directly. This would have the advantage of emitting light right in the centre and upwards. Besides, the resistor wouldn't protrude to the side.
