I had one of the first ones sold in the UK. It was so unreliable I don't think it would have lasted long enough to rust.

I was a glutton for punishment. After the trauma of my first 440, I made the monumental mistake and bought another. The second one had the annoying habit of constantly blowing relays.

Funny you know. I read years ago on a 440 review. They summery was: Volvos nightmare

A damm shame. I actually loved the 440 mark one. The shape and everything and they turbo'd the renault 1.7 engine to 115bhp IIRC and gave it then a insurance group 10 out of 20 making it a cheap turbo car.

I liked them but never got one.

My Saab was beautiful. But not great. It didn't fly when liz drove it off the road. It was very cramped space to sit in and gave cloinkiing noises that even a Saab enthusiast couldn't find out. And as for Fords: I had one and never will again. The rust.....doors fell almost out and it was mind you the newest car I ever owned. However : when the timing belt breaks, it doesn't damage anything but just stops :)
Do you have to wash your car when attending the X ralley...hmmm

I agree Paul, the 440 looked quite good when they were new. Had no idea they turboed the 1.7 lump. That was odd hearing a Volvo sound exactly like the Renault 21.
The 480ES was also a pig to own apparently. Loads of electrical gremlins plagued them. Not all Volvo's are tough as old boots.

Today I did come across a gold Merc E class, oval headlight version W210 ...... Every edge of every panel was rusty. And I mean flaking. Bonnet, doors, wheel arches. It was a mess, I know these version do rust, but it was like it had spent several years in a lake.

Renaults 21 Turbo was the bigger 2.0 engine, fitted in line, and 175 bhp!! Where the 21 1.7 was transverse..

Renaults 25 Turbo was the 12v PRV 2.7 engine and 195bhp!

Yeah I know Paul, a unique feature of the 21 having both transverse and longitudinal engine layouts for the petrols. Had different wheel bases too, although subtle. Loads of space to stand in the engine bay too with te 1.7!! :lol:



25 turbo though :twisted: .... Mk1 for me however. I like the earlier look. :) did they do a mk1 turbo?

Yes they DID! Recognised by the Renault Diamond Badge off set rather then in the centre.

Also a N/a 2.9 V6i too

Only "Venturi" ever IM SURE Turbo'd a 24v PRV engine, giving 300 bhp.. (off top of my head)

I have just found some pics of the early mk1 turbos. I do like them, pity they are all but gone. :roll: :lol:

Never heard of a turboed PRV apart from a Delorean modification they have done recently. Unless alpine GTA's had them. Not sure there.
