You're not gonna replace the hole sunroof cause of that little how are you?!

I wouldn't, just seal it properly, that should hold for ever now. They do not all rust, I have a pristine 17 year old sunroof here to be some archaeological find a thousand years from now :) Well done Russ, sorted now.
I've diagnosed a C4 in 5 minutes and got a venison stew for it in return. :)
Oh and not to forget, a young girl called my XM a 'sporty' car today, she liked it (and not 'my' old Focus which now lives with an engine management light on;..I don't know!)
We don't have them orange lights, do we Russ?! :)

Orange lights...what are they!  no idea what you mean. :D

 an evening meal for 5 mins work. Well done you!! Bet that will be tasty.
And XM's do look sporty. Bit like Lotus's ....wedgey!

I am not going to replace the whole sunroof, no...just take out the glass panel and the frame it is bonded too. Reseal it and pop it back in. No doubt with much swearing and frustration!!!  I need to find out how to get it off first mind you.
I haven't resealed it properly Jaap, it needs attention if it is to get through the winter. And drying out that ruddy foam is a nightmare I do not want to repeat! Plus it needs to be sorted as it might be pressed into service for a friends wedding in November. Can't have it all soggy and smelly inside!

On your focus, have you had the wiring loom modification carried out? They had a fault with a light on the dash indicating an alternator fault. The real issue was a factory fitted piece of loom that fails. Ford now sell a replacement piece which cures the problem ;)

I don't know, I only had that thing for a short while. It was given to me and I sold it but I never had problems with it. I will tell her though, thanks.

Well my sunroof seal is shot....as expected it is letting in water probably everywhere! I popped out this afternoon, to plug the hole I found and temporarily seal it up to stop water ingress..... and I noticed on the passenger side a seam of water in between the frame and glass.
So I have taped up the entire seal on the outside and hopefully that will stop it for now until next week when I can really fix it.
On a positive note, all I am getting in now is a little bead of water, about the size of a 5p peice on the floor. Annoyingly it seems to just appear. There is no obvious route...apart from possibly the A pillar.
So to really find it I must chuck some water on it and see. That will be interesting. :) A mystery hopefully solved when the frame to glass bond is replaced.

Can't wait to get going on this. ;)

Some Amsterdam findings!

Image
A V6 24V mk2

Image
Mk2 spec unknown. Maybe a diesel.

Image
V6 estate mk2

The XM's were all found in one street on the first day of being there! Came across another silver mk2 V6 exclusive in traffic too. But no pic

Image

Ds old and new...with an r4 just behind.

Image

Image

Image

And a cheeky 2CV to finish. I also saw a white s2 CX parked down a street as well as a DS pretty much down every side street.

Amsterdam seems to have fallen for the electric car. Found two of these....Fiska Karma

Image

And a Tesla roadster was parked in one street. No pic though. Loads of electric smart cars.

But loads of excellent cars to see. Old Saabs and Volvo's. Xantias still about and Renault Safranes. Alfa 166's. nice to see Lancias too..themas ect.. Renault twingo's ....proper ones!

There was such a good cross section of old and new cars. Blissful car spotting.

Holland has always been a stranglehold for Citroens. it's nice to see all the DS in regular use.

I loved it...so many cars that are in everyday use, that just aren't about here anymore. Loads of
Saab 900 turbos for example. There was a DS almost down every street! Brilliant!

Got going on my sunroof today. Easy to get out, took a little while to gently prise off the glass from the frame.
What I found was rust and water, unsurprisingly, but no holes apart from the one I have plugged. It seems the sealant failed in all the corners and was going up the sides. The front and back was very much still bonded and refused to give up! It has been tricky getting the old sealant off infact. I won't go mad with pics, as Will has already done this process, and I'm following his method! :D

Some pics of my sunroof frame before treatment.

Rust converter doing its thing.

I reckon every XM sunroof that lives outside will be doing something like this now. It's certainly something to prepare for!
