WOW Vince, what a result. :o :D No wonder you were totally done in after spending all day achieving those results.

I recognise the car too. I did an illustration for the Boe's. annoyingly it got creased by the Royal Mail.

Stunning car!...I believe they use quite regularly too. How could you not. 8-)

You're a hero, spending 10 hours on somebody else 's car...

I am not great in the washing and polishing department. One day going to work and it's usually dirty again....
But I did polish my black CX recently and even taped off the plastic trims...but I don't think I spent much more than 90 minutes on it. It'll never be new again anyway:) unless you have a go at it or so I now believe:)

I get paid to spend 10 hours on someone else's car :P Oddly enough, I've never spent the same effort on any car ive owned myself. If I had a black CX though im sure that would change :)

Im feeling a tad recovered today but I did struggle at work being so knackered still.

Never mind, I've got a Rolls Royce to look at tomorrow for a bodyshop I service through work.....one thing is for sure, I wouldn't tackle that in one day....at least I say I wont :)

Hello all...I figured id give you an update of why I haven't been very active recently on the forum....

For what seems like a long while now I've had a growing problem with stress and anxiety and naturally as you do decided to bury it thinking it would just get better again...well it hasn't and its got a lot worse recently....as such I haven't had the capacity to interact much with anyone after dealing with the demands of my 20 staff at work each day and my wife and kids when I get home. When your not in a good place to begin with this has been really hard, but im on a recovery plan though and am looking forward to getter back to good health again soon ;)

Due to this, work on the xm had stopped recently as I haven't had the energy or inclination to do anything. The Pallas work has had to continue though due to Linda losing her job recently, but she now has started her own private practice in Manchester which is now starting to show signs of growth :) so hopefully soon we will be back on track earnings wise and the xm can return to the road in the new year fresher and fitter than before :)

On the xm front, at the moment its sitting nice and clean under a car cover in the drive. I occasionally take off the cover, start it up, do some citaerobics, drive and back and forward a touch then wash and dry it and cover it back up again. Its frustrating not being able to take it for a blast down the motorway though to clear any cobwebs

Ive just bought a replacement Pirelli P6000 to replace the one which got worn badly on the inside edge when the wheel alignment was out (that has been realigned now) so ill get the tyre fitted to the rim (can do that through work) and that's another small job done in anticipation of its next MOT whenever that happens.

I still need to change the sump gasket to cure the long standing oil seep its had (have a new one in the boot), so naturally new oil and filter will go on at that time. I will buy a purflux one though from GSF when im ready for originalities sake ;) Andrew Page only do Mann filtration as OE.

I also have a replacement rear manual window mechanism in the shed I bought months ago, to replace the non operational one on the OSR, but im not sure how easy or hard they are to fit so that might be a job I leave until its back on the road and some kind soul wants to give me a hand with it :P

From working underneath the back end I noticed the rear silencer needs replacing as its got a hole in it  . Surprisingly enough these I cant get through work channels anymore so I've found that they are available on ebay so will need to pick one up and have that fitted before MOT time. I have an MOT place now in mind via work so when the time comes ill get them to do the inner cv gaitor that's split on the drivers side and the rear box too and it should fly through finger crossed :P

On the Pallas front, here is the Rolls Royce I did as stated in my last post.....it was very messy and you could tell its had quite a few touch up spray jobs in the past to various panels, but it turned out very nicely. (the silver doesn't do the work full justice). Needless to say, it was completely flawless when it was completed and the body shop who I did it for very pleased.

I have just had an Audi Q7 booked in for the end of the month. It wont be a big earner though as its the third job I would have done for this customer so im doing him it on a kind of loyalty discount style arrangement. The money is spoken for though of course  :)

Here are some pictures of the Rolls when it has been finished ;) Naturally continuing on my recent course of self flagellation I did it all in one day, starting the morning after driving back down from Edinburgh with a seized caliper on the Qashqai....I was exhausted when I started it...so I didn't enjoy it at all....in fact I sweated buckets all day and felt quite ill doing it....I enjoyed looking it over though once it was finished :P

Hope your all enjoying the cxm rally whilst im sat here....and Russ im looking forward to the engine bay stickers :D Ill get some more xm stuff posted up soon, as its not a detailing forum on here is it :P

Good work Vince, hope you'll soon be up and running the way you'd want it best. Putting that rear window regulator in isn't difficult but just a bit of hassle - as to be expected. The Rolls I used to do weddings with, is sold and gone. I'll miss the old lady though!

Good luck with it all! :)

Realy sorry to hear you have been/are having a tough time of it, Vince. I am sure you will pull through it in time. It is surprising how many of us have been there and yet you always feel that you are letting yourself or somebody else down. I have only met you once, but I have read your blogs and you seem like a thoroughly decent bloke who is trying to do his best for his family and his sense of self, and that really is all that matters. You also have skills that many people are jealous of - at least I am

Best wishes

Rob

Hello again and thanks to the well wishers who have sent me some encouragement ;) It helps...

I went to see my dad yesterday...the first time in a long time and naturally I had to go in the Nissan. In between York and Scarborough I passed a guy in an old TR6 ambling along in the sun with a big grin on his face :D. I thought to myself, as car guys, there really is no replacement to being behind the wheel of the car that you love...the look on his face was priceless :)

Can anyone tell me if the side trims on the xm come off and apart like the xantia ones do? What im thinking is the silver trim tape that Russ is pioneering would be more resistant to peeling etc if its tucked behind the black plastic outer trim....should stop weather getting to the leading edges ;)

I'd best get on with my day anyway...running errands all day for Linda as I was in Scarborough all day yesterday....

The plasti-chrome trim edges are overlapped by the plastic "frame" of the main trim or bumper section.
Adding chrome tape to the degraded trim strip while removed from the vehicle is much easier.
Refitting the treated trim strip is a tight fit so damage to the chrome tape edge bonding is a real risk.
First try might be best on a spare side trim which no doubt Paul or Robert can provide if need be.

I had pondered over that risk John. ...
