Excellent! XM's really are long distance cruisers aren't they! I was taking it easy on the way back from yours, until we reached Witney, which is by Oxford. I know that road well from there so it was warp factor 1 for a bit! Poor old stepdad struggled to keep up!

Well, on the lovely sunny saturday we just had I changed her blood...

The dial

My daughter had a little drive...

And I got the hoover out

And after

The carpets are lovely, come up so well with a good vac!
Outside is looking a bit peaky though

Coppergreasy hands from saturday

but that's where she is!

You're a lot younger than I expected Sam. How do you reach the pedals?

I'm 6ft2, the seats right back and it's very comfortable!
No, no gearbox oil change yet, it's on the cards. Need to find out what gearbox I have, then find a post that recommends an oil to use etc.

If a manual then Total BV 75W/80, Comma 75W/80 or any other make that offers a 75W/80 especially for certain Peugeot/Citroen Boxes...
I believe yours is an automatic Sam so it'll be the 4HP18 and therefore needing a dose of Dexron IID Mineral ATF such as Comma AQM. Don't use anything other than Dexron IID spec. and definitely not Dexron III. The 'box is fussy, was designed for Dexron IID and therefore thrives best on that stuff. Be wary that some may say that Dexron III is backwardly compatible with IID. It's not. There's been a few threads on here about it in the past.
The actual job is very easy. Arrange a big drain tray under and remove the plate (three 10mm bolts) that secure the filter plate. Remove the plate and a big gush of ATF will fall out. Then, using a pair of pliers, carefully withdraw the filter and clean it in petrol or similar. Note there's a square magnet on the plate. This is a dwarf catcher and needs a clean at the same time.
The old ATF should be red but don't be scared if it's gone a bit dark or black. Refill with about three litres of ATF and top up with the engine idling and having gone from P to 1 and back again to just below the cold fill mark initially and then go for a blast to get the ATF nice and hot and then check and top up as necessary to the hot full mark.
Always check the ATF level with the engine idling and having just gone from P to 1 and back.
If the old ATF was not a very nice colour do another couple of changes in rapid succession until the colour looks better.
A funnel on the end of a piece of transparent plastic pipe makes a good tool for refilling the 'box...

Can I refill from the dipstick tube using a funnel? Sounds like a nice easy job tbh. I've read the dextron debate thread, II it is!
Will paraffin clean the filters ok? Got lots of that!

Hi Sam,
Nice to hear your getting stuck into your XM. I believe yours was found in a garage right here in Cheltenham. So look after her!!!!
Dean has written a great auto ATF change sticky in the Self help files...last posting I think, so go right to the back! Got pics to show you too of all the bits ect. And trust me from experience, that little magnet can go walkies very easily.
It's worth doing as the box does feel so much smoother after having done the ATF change.
I'll be doing mine again very soon.

Campbell did pull it out of slumber, not sure where though (I'm sure it's been written somewhere!)russ92xmsed wrote:Hi Sam,
