I see what you mean Will.
Just been out and checked it. The other side is fine.... all covered ect, but the reason I suppose I didn't pick up on that, is because none of the bolts look as though they have been touched. There isn't any thing to suggest the wing has been off. No marks, scratches, chipped paint. It has been dented in the past, in the usual place behind the headlight. But nothing else. Everything seems in inligment too. Very odd.

Well it's all sealed up now, so the water cannot get into that box section. I suppose the top part of the wing needs pulling in over it then.

Strange place. I would guess the hole has always been there if nothing looks to have been replaced as you mentioned. Typical French build quality then. Did you check for rust underneath the fire wall Russ!

Hey Jaap,

Yeah I think the hole is meant to be there, just not exposed like mine is. I don't know...these French car builders, they throw these cars together!!!!

Do you mean the scuttle panel, but behind the wheel arch liners. If so not properly yet.

The XM was a very precisely built car, it was assembled by robots, using lasers to detect the correct fitment.

Almost certainly, your car will have had the wing replaced and painted. The visible ribbing is the old sealer. How is the wing held on at present?

Yes I know Will...I was joking!. Actually the XM looked to be very carefully built car indeed. The YouTube videos are fascinating.
They even made the time to check each one over as it came off the production line.

The wing is held on by bolts. No obvious welding ect to suggest it was bodged on. The paint doesn't really look new..it is the same shade and age as the rest of the car, but i do realise you can mix paint to match aged paint exactly. So if it is a replacement wing, it could have been replaced early in its life. It was a London car initially. The SED badge is the same age as the other side, same goes for the black trim, but then that is more than likely to be taken off and reattached if they were salvageable. No signs of crash damage to the chassis or the legs. Everything is straight and true. The shut lines are all even. I can take some better pics tomorrow if you want to see more.

I'm sure yours will be fine Jim. :)

My front wing is certianly out of alignment at the top, where all the bolts are. I know there are others that locate and hold the front wing on, but it is 'out' at the top. You can see the bonnet shut line is a fraction too large compared to the other side. So I can only assume, if possible, to nudge it over a couple of mm.

I also need to adjust my hydraulic pump. The v belt is too slack. Squeals when you start the car. I have located the adjusting brackets, but not entirely sure how you do it....having never done it before, I wouldn't  . And typically the Haynes book of lies, has no instructions! ;)

Loosen both the clamping bolt and the pivot bolt, pull pump to tension the belt, tighten the clamping bolt, then the pivot bolt.

You know that dog the Americans sent into space before any astronauts...She could do hydro-pump belts...

  .....oooo, no hope for me then!!!

Thanks very much Will. I'll get on to that, it certainly sounds simple enough.

ARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!

I am having a mare of a day. Everything I try and do is going wrong. Spent all morning trying to load up a large poster order, bound for the US, and the ruddy printers website kept crashing my computer 6-7 times, completely frozen up. Had to load each one individually, log out and then log back in. Then the stupid Internet has decided it wants to be glacially slow. Just nothing seems to want to cooperate today.
I'm narked...you can see steam!!!

Then I thought, nice day lets go do the pump belt this afternoon....NOPE! Even that has pissed me right off. I had to walk away or I was going to throw something!! So it seems a dog that can go into space is better at doing belt tensioning than me. Mind you my patience is wafer thin at the mo.

I just want to confirm I am getting the right bolts, there are many. The ones i assume are the correct bolts, is this long screw one that points up and goes up through to a bracket thing that is attched to another bolt that looks as though it is the pivot bolt. It is located in a groove. I assume the pump has to move UP to tension?. On mine I cannot get to the pivot bolt to slacken it. Every tool I try hits something. There is another bolt directly above it that seems to pivot too.

I know...lost the plot today! Stupid temper..:|
