Good part is the welding is booked in for Tuesday morning and from there to be sprayed so should have it back for Thursday. Not so good part is the interior. I've had no luck in finding a decent cloth interior and am now more seriously looking at full leather.

It's just occurred to me that I think I know where there is a good Romana interior. It's in an estate car, but I think the bits you need will fit. The car is near Leicester, though. Are you going to the X-rally?

Interesting! Is the backrest for a hatchback the same as a backrest for an estate? Door cards and centre console as well?

Yes I (we) are going to the X rally.

Anyone got any pics of a Romana interior as searches bring up contradicting images.

My mandarin car is Romana, same as the velour seats in your car.

I think the only difference in estate interiors is the rear seat back catches and side bolsters, which can be made to fit (iirc), definitely the rest is the same.

For info, this is the slightly later Sonata velour, that is often confused with Romana.

The door cards are the same, as are the seat centre pieces.

The estate back rest won't fit into the hatch - well it won't lock onto the shell. Its possible to make hatch seats fit an estate, as the locking points can be moved out on a bracket, but not the other way for fitting estate interiors into a hatch.

However, I can supply you with the correct hatch back rest and side pieces for your car to match the interior that was in this estate car.

I threw a complete Sonata interior away last year.

Thanks for the pics Will, the difference is subtle but enough to make a difference.

I've thought about buying this one but the interior isn't the right one and it seems a shame to ruin a decent car. I also thought about the leather interior in the one Malcolm has for sale. It would look superb in that but I am always one for having a car like this as it was originally so the Romana interior would be preferable.

Thanks for the option Robert. First question though is, if I was to remove the Romana cover on the estate seat back would it fit the hatch seat back in mine?

Or is Robert's option the easiest way to go?

The seat material would be too large for the metal frame unfortunately. Good thinking though!

The back seat back rest was made wider on estate cars to give an unobstructed load bay when the seat was folded down.

If you get the interior that Will has hosted photographs of (which is immaculate - it was in my car and I cleaned it), Campbell (Messerschmit owner) is bringing a XM from here over to the England via Wales so the seat back could go with him if you wish.
