Thanks guys, i knew there was something about the jacking points......i think ill just go for a trolley jack...my mate will have one at his garage so ill bob it over to his and do it there.
Russ, i did one of these on my Xantia a while back....think it took me about 20 minutes start to finish....Citrojim i think it was gave me the tip to ditch the metal clip and use 3 heavy duty cable ties instead...it worked a treat and will still be on it now...nice and easy to do also
Paul, the strut hose is leaking where it mouths onto the strut itself....no issue i have a new one in the back of the car and another in the shed somewhere.....after being caught out in the xantia once i figured they are a cheap thing to pick up and carry with you. Cable ties too.....all i need now is a jack or a big piece of wood
One thing i do need to get done is the ribbed belt tensioner soon....its getting a bit noisy now on idle so it must be due for a change....they are about £60 though i think....ill see if we do them at my new place.....if not then ill tap GSF up for one and try to swing a staff sale on it

Sorry Vince...totally forgot you had a Xantia before.lovely too. Seen some pics!
I found a Xantia pipe on eBay, great price I thought, plus it was the only one on there at the time. Then GSF listed 40 of the things for XM's for a bit less a week later...Typical!
Never mind. I too resulted to cable ties.

The Clio engine bay clean up is really impressive - as all your work seems to be.

Thanks Ragger
Ive just finished the xm strut return hose repair

I decided to take people's advice about the all round subframe and wedging something beneath it to lift the wheel when its dropped. I found that an axle stand without its top hat on is just short enough to fit under the subframe around the wheel area so i forged ahead with that.
Job done and back on the road again
Well, the alfa is going on Monday.....unfortunately the C4 picasso deal has fallen through so im getting a 2012 Nissan Qashqai instead......not sure what its going to be like but i guess ill be finding out
Ill keep an eye on the xm for a few days incase there are any other leaks anywhere else, but the ribbed belt tensioner is worrying me somewhat....its probably not even that bad, i just get paranoid when something makes noises.....

Pity about the C4 falling through Vince. Bet the Kumquat will be very capable, but dull. Can't quote understand how it is such a good seller...apart from it. Being British built of course.
Still it will be better than the Scenic I'm sure.

Not Quite Russ.. Nissan is owned by Renault, so all the Nissans (except the V6 DCi) diesel engines are Renaults engines...
so, it still has a Renault DCi engine!!! Watch those turbos Vince, and DO NOT obide by the long service intervals! Thats what killed a lot of the early DCI engines in the Laguna 2... They had 18k service scedule, but the oil would only last about 12k... Fully Synthetic oil too..
Not sure about these later family of engines, but Id be scetchy...

Oh yes I know Nissan and Renault are married so to speak!...but it is made up in Sunderland....what I was on about was the general feel of it and the looks. Not exactly desirable. Quite dull in my opinion. But strangely have you ever heard of a ruined Kumquat? I've not.....
They must be keeping them quiet!...or is Renault an easier target to malign?

So right. those things are hideous. Designer must have been blind... No one can draw that and say it looks good. Hateful thing.

I'm divided over the Juke.. Yes it looks very bizarre but it's so funny it makes it unique, interesting and makes it stand out against the fleets and fleets of tedious same-o-matics we see on the roads today...
I'd have one just because it's a bit wacky and different...
