Time to come back in from the cold?
Before I tell you what I'm driving today, I've had two CX's, a 2CV, and an XM 2.0Sei turbo. For the last four years I've been driving an 04/54 Vel Satis 2.2Dci. To be honest, it's the longest I've ever owned a car. Time for a change though - I'm looking for a good, big estate (have a dog now) and I'm thinking about coming back into the fold. Love the C6, but still too dear, and I'd still need an estate as well....
So - how easy would it be to find a good XM estate - preferably a diesel (I do around 20 to 25k a year) that's got all the whistles and bells? (Must have have climate like my old Sei - leather would be nice as well....)
I'd be interested in a good CX Safari instead...

Welcome Eternal Opimist.
You should be able to find something to suit the bill if you are patient, and are prepared to compromise on how many bells and whilstles you get.
Try and get the best condition car you can buy, things like colour and trim levels then follow suit.

If you want a car that appears truly immaculate then this one would be worth a look. It's been for sale for ages and the garage owner may now be prepared to do a deal.
No leather.

Another one which would leave money in the kitty for running costs.

Welcome to one of the friendliest forums you'll find anywhere!!
Your name is very apt for Citroen ownership!
You'll only find leather fitted to any Cx if it's on the Continent - it's fairy common over there
but never offered over here in any series (1 or 2).
As far as Xm's go. The key may very well be whether you want auto or diesel as this is a core
point of discussion here. Some say that autoboxes have their innards made of material flimsier
than candlewax which don't last beyond 120k miles!

No climate control either - that's top of the must have listDieselman wrote:If you want a car that appears truly immaculate then this one would be worth a look. It's been for sale for ages and the garage owner may now be prepared to do a deal.

Cheers all for your replies. My old XM (L121 HRD) had 180,000 on the clock when I sold it - in 30,000 miles all I had to replace was an alternator and the drive shafts. I made a point of having the auto fluid changing at every service - it was my first auto and I wanted to do all I could to not have to replace the box.
What are the watch outs when I'm looking at one? Clean LHM, evidence of careful ownership like matching, quality tyres, good service history.....what else?

If you're quick - you'd do a lot worse than bid on this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT
OK, it's not an estate, but then you buy a Cx Safari to compliment it!
Then an Activa, then a 24V V6 Xantia, then a CX GTi Turbo...

Re: Time to come back in from the cold?
Can't argue too much with your follow up suggestions....what I'd add to your list is a really early CX GTi with that bizarre black and white leather trim. Oh, and a Visa GTi.andmcit wrote:

Re: Time to come back in from the cold?
I'm with there on that one although I've never given any thought to the Visa GTi.
So many temptations; there's a BX 16v, a GS 1222 Pallas or X1, a s1 AND S2 24v v6 Xm,
the Cx C-Matic Pallas, Cx 2.5 Prestige and s1 GTi Turbo, an Ami Super and 6 and that's all before
the more costly Birotor, D's, Sm's and Tractions. <<sigh>>

Re: Time to come back in from the cold?
I may live to regret this.....but I'm going to keep the Vel Satis for another year, and dog wise I've just bought a Volvo 960 3.0 litre 24v estate......with a month's MoT and tax.....and a 3/4 full tank of petrol....for £350. Feel free to hurl abuse.
