, I think your doing okay on your SD....done loads. Plus you've been sorting out your landlords too. That looks very complex.
Do you know anything about this cavity I discovered full of water?

Nope, the one Vince had from me also had this "Gromet" loose and removed, but it was clear inside the hole...
Got to juggle time between the Xantia V6 strip down and carrying on with the SD now...
Next big task, the washers dont work... grrrr.. Hope its NOT the motor. They are hidden behind the passenger wing in the washer bottle...

Must be a sealed cavity. The bung must be there so they could wax oil or rust proof it once the car was built...my interpretation .....Ah well seal it up tomorrow.
Yeah, read about the washer pump being there. Ergh! I must investigate the rear washer pump. Mine doesn't seem to work but can live with out it. More important is giving the nozzles a good clean through.
Weather is good tomorrow......

Rear pump IS a seperate pump, and in the same area.. Unlike Xantias, where they use the same pump but spin forward for front wash, and reverse for rear wash.. Clever really..
Neither of my pumps are making a noise, so Im hoping fuse...

Hi russ
If the sunroof drain hole into the wheel arch is blocked the front chassis fills up with water.
Drain hole is formed by a bent plate on the outside of the chassis.

Thanks John. I'll go and do some water testing tomorrow then before I seal it all up. Glad I found it, though I was fearful it might be a blocked drain.

Well I tried the water in the sunroof tray and watched for blocked drains, but they are free flowing so to speak. The cavity I unearthed is far too forward to be affected by the drains. The scuttle is clear too, with no debris..
So, I have dried it out as much as possible, and filled it with waxoil. Cleaned the area up and now waiting for the sealant for the plug to set. Then I'll reseal to make sure it won't let more water in.
Also whilst I was at it, went round and tightened up some hose clips.
Next job I want to do is to lubricate the sunroof mechanism. It has slowed up with not being used. Typical!

If you use some penetrating oil, you can spray it onto a good portion of the cables. If you slide the glass into the roof you should be able to see part of the cables, spray loads of oil onto them whilst closing the roof, repeat a lot and you should have a freer running roof.
