Re: Waiting for the AirCon man
I have a trench nearly 200 metres long which carries the water up from the well, I thought that might be ideal for a ground source heat pump but I think its highly possible that it will freeze my water supply - no John, I haven't filled it in yet but I am about to.

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to heating and things. How do they dig that far into the ground 330 is quite a way down!

Didn't you say that last time I was over yours?Peter.N. wrote:I have a trench nearly 200 metres long which carries the water up from the well, I thought that might be ideal for a ground source heat pump but I think its highly possible that it will freeze my water supply - no John, I haven't filled it in yet but I am about to.

Although using a depth of 1m below the surface is good as it captures solar gain, why not use the well as the heat source. Drop a pipe right tot eh bottom and collect the heat from the sub strata.Peter.N. wrote:I have a trench nearly 200 metres long which carries the water up from the well, I thought that might be ideal for a ground source heat pump but I think its highly possible that it will freeze my water supply - no John, I haven't filled it in yet but I am about to.

Hi Kevin
Digging the hole is easy.
At any depth you only dig a spade depth at a time.
Chucking the muck out from 330 feet down needs real skill.
If the rain stops you could always practice in Peters well.

Dad tells me they brought in a proper drilling rig to dig his.. It was lubricated with copious quantities of water and it made a right mess... A red mess - the colour of the subsoil. It took about a day to drill each borehole even with this purpose made rig...xmexclusive wrote: Chucking the muck out from 330 feet down needs real skill.

Unfortunately the well is not that relaible, it went dry this year until July, its had loads of water in it since then but its only 25' deep.Dieselman wrote:Although using a depth of 1m below the surface is good as it captures solar gain, why not use the well as the heat source.
