Vince wrote:Hi Russ,

From what i could see on the citroen programme, it highlights an oil level probe which looks to have a top connector resembling an oil pressure switch. The picture however isnt clear. One of these guys will know what it is on here better than we.

Mine powers up so it flickers when you put the ignition on but it doesn't read full when it is full. :?:

Hi Vince,

Mine does exactly the same. It all powers up fine, but the needle only flickers a little. The lit up gauge all works fine. If anyone had some pics of this prob, that would be useful. :)

Its on the BACK of the engine, behind the Turbo Vince. Nearer to the gearbox end. The sensor is like a water level sensor, but theres a length of cable from the top. Its connected on top of the gearbox, useually a YELLOW connector..

Firstly, remove the turbo, then you will have access...

Turbos are rather awkward to remove in situ, so best remove the car body for best access... ;)

Most likely why its been left.

Im not 100% familiar with the back of a 2.1 so don't know how badly the turbo obscures the sensor.. but i know the sensor is on the back of the block gearbox end...

On the TCT the sender is very easy to get to and I might be wrong here but the TCT and 2.1 can't be that different at the back. Or can it?

Mine occasionally just flicks up half way and at other times it's OK. I'm wondering if it's the same on the Xantia where the sensor gets confused by high-quality semi-synthetic oil?

Anyway, if you regularly use that quaint old thing called a dipstick then the level gauge can be ignored. I never take any notice of the lights on the Xantia when they play up...
