Front strut top (sphere support)

Post by White Exec » Wed Jul 04, 2012 8:04 pm

Having replaced my RH (driver's side) strut top last year, I thought I'd lay in a spare (527188) for the passenger side, just in case this should go at some point. My local Citroen parts counter obtained one for me within 24 hours (from a Valencia dealer's stock), despite having been told it wasn't urgent! I wonder how long factory stock of these will continue?

Yes, agreed. But is the car off-the-road, or worse, a knackered bonnet, any cheaper? If you've got some good s/hand spares, that's fine, assuming they won't let you down.

This is a shameful design bug for this car. I also have 3 bonnets as spare parts, just in case :)

Hello.

We've got the seem problem here in France. I've got a lot of messages about it in my forum.
I worked in the PSA spare service center and i can tell you that this spare is out of access. The only way (i use) is to find wrecked XM and i take it for spare. I sell them for people asked me. I ever save 10 Xm by this way.

With my forum's member we often speak about it and i use that on my cars:

This problem exist for Xantia's, Bx's, XM of course and i ever heard about a C6 recently.
Citroen manufacture has been contact about it and the answer was: buy a new Citroen car please

Mr Yo, thank you for confirming that no further stock of strut heads are available ex-factory.
We were not sure about this and the price is so high no one has tried ordering.
There are a few New Old Stock ones from Citroen dealers in the UK but not many.
After that I will use the refurbished strut heads from KINGas in Lithuania.
I was very happy with the 7 XM strut heads he repaired for me last year.

The problem you have is in general, slightly different to the one we have.
With your strut tops the rubber tends to split, whereas with ours the steel plate rusts away and breaks off.

According to their homepage (http://www.elastomer.eu/en/kontaktai.html) they are in Lithuania.
There are also few successful attempts of struts recovering (In Ukrain, Belarus). Do not give up!
