All the xm engines were bullet proof, ive personaly owned a 2.0i with 190k and sweet as a nut, my Activa has only done 140k but likewise perfect engine, most dervs will nudge 200k some near 300k but most die through abuse or an unwillingness to repair rather than major mechanical failure, I would say the 2.1 is a stronger lump than the 1.9 your leaving anyway, and a nicer drive imo, i think the 2.1 will be more to your liking than the 1.9 was.
Not long to go now Vince, a week or so?

2.1 td manual estate just gone on about 300,000 still running well but going rotten, previous 2.1td manual estate sold at 292,000 still with original clutch - but slipping. The 2.1 engines and manual gearboxes seem to last forever.

All?
I'm going to counter that the PRVs have not aged well in many instances. Some have developed problems from neglect, others from the oil cooler failing and their water hoses rotting from inside outwards.
As Chris showed recently on FCF, the later V6s are potentially also at risk of age/neglect failure issues, too.
Neither puts me off, other than the inconvenience and cost to get it sorted - in fact I am toying with the idea of commissioning (black) silicone hoses for all the NFP ones...
Cheers, Adam.

In a country where they don't really rust, what kills them overall is low value and plastics turning to dust.

I've driven a 2.1td with 550,000km on the clock. The body was dented and battered, the drivers seat had been replaced, the fuelling had been turned up so it went like stink, and overall it was a cracking car.

Awesome....i dont know how im going to wait for 2 weeks yet Lol.
In the back of my mind im expecting to find a few things that will need doing ontop of what i already know about. I dont want to get too hyped up and then not enjoy the purchase process.

I should think it all depends on how they've been looked after. My 2.1 manual is on 194,000 miles. It only sports a small amount of superficial rust on one strut top, all the usual places are perfect. Only one small dent on the bonnet, engine is sweet and unusually clean and the gearbox is just as tight as my 98k Xantia.
In my limited experience even with the most perfect car in the world will have something crop up in the first few weeks!
