XM 2.5 won't start

Post by endorfin » Mon Mar 19, 2012 2:06 pm

I started my 2.5 this morning, no problem, moved it out of the drive. Then a few hours later tried to start it and it just turns over, battery was fully charged but just kept turning over. The keypad immobiliser light is on green. It has a full tank of fuel, I've changed the fuel filter, to no avail.

It's never failed to start before, its not the starter as it keeps turning over. I'm scratching my head about this one, have called the RAC but wonder if anyone has any ideas.

Hope it's not an immobiliser issue?

Hi endorfin, crack an injector union and check for fuel egress whilst cranking,if not check voltage at pump solenoid. If there is supply at solenoid then it is unlikely there is an immobiliser fault and probably the solenoid itself is at fault, a current check here will confirm, check the earth is ok.

It was the fuel cut off solenoid, after a lot of messing about the RAC bloke flashed it with a 24v supply and it started. He said it may be an idea to replace this and mentioned that they're not that expensive to buy. Anyone know what part this is so I can search for a new one.

All working ok at the moment now though.

Hi endorfin

I think I bought a spare one from the local diesel specialist.
Bosch item around £20 I think.
Will have a look to see if I can find the part number.

That would be great John. It looks a bit of a sod to get off though, the RAC man was trying to undo it at first but without success.

Car wouldn't start again today so urgently need to find a stop solenoid, not having a lot of luck can only find ones for the 2.1, unless they are the same?

Managed to track one down, rang Citroen who say they are discontinued but gave me the part number and found one on ebay, seems pretty cheap:

The picture looks right.
I seem to remember a whole lot of compatible Bosch part numbers when I got mine.
Though it was left in the glove box of one of the cars but not found it yet.
His prices look very good, well found.
Might try him for injector nozzels and refurbishing.
Post might take a few days though.
Getting to this solenoid on a 2.5 is dead easy, just need a spanner that will fit.
Can be seen on the top at the back end of the pump.

Found my spare now, box and part are marked Bosch 0 330 001 040.

I got one from Euro car parts in the end as wasn't sure how long this seller would take to deliver, £14 from them, gave them the Citroen part number so should be the right one, picking it up today.

The RAC bloke did try to remove it with a spanner but couldn't get the leverage even with the coolant header tank removed, there doesn't seem enough space to get a socket over the solenoid.

Think that I got in with a ring spanner.
Was a good while ago.
Mine turned out to be OK hence the spare still in the box.
