2.1 TD Torque curve

Off topic chat about anything you like. Doesn't have to be about XMs (though they will inevitibly come up!). You can even discuss non-Citroens :o in here!

Had a look but can't find anything. I can tell you that max torque is at 2000 rpm but you probably already know that, its given as 179 or 180 lbs/ft depending where you look. Al I know is that its very good, boost starts to come up at about 1700 rpm but the torque off boost is not insignificant, it will pull well all the way from tickover, its better than my 110hp Hdi, that pulls well from 1500 rpm. Don't know what the high end is like as I rarely drive at above 2500 rpm.

That's quite useful actually Peter, especially the boost starting at 1700 rpm.
Were different turbos fitted to the autos vs manuals?

at a guess iwould say it rises sharply as revs aproach 2000rpm and from then on increase propertionatly as more fuel is injected until it starts to flaten out then fall away at around 3800 4000rpm.
There was something posted o the old forum but i think it was 2.5/3.0 based

That's not an official figure Geoff just my personal observation from nearly half a million miles of driving them. Its not pulling strongly at that speed but you can feel the boost building.

I found a couple of XUD11ATE curves, both with different engine codes, so not sure what the differences are:

This is XUD11 ATE P8A:

and
XUD11 ATE PHZ:

I have been out in the XM today so thought I would pay particular attention to the rate at which the acceleration increases. From tickover to it will accelerate fairly smoothly but doesn't really start to pull until it reaches 1400 rpm, from there to 1800 acceleration improves progressivly, past 1800 it takes off. This is the best low speed torque of any similar sized engine I have driven, combined with its exceptional economy and longevity I reckon it was the best IDI engine produced.

And where is the other one used?

For some reason I have forgotten :? , I always thought the 2 graphs show the mechanical Vs the electronic-controlled injection pumps -I thought the electronic made more torque.

cheers
