Does a C6 need to be in Sport mode, surely it just engages it as required. When Jezza tested the C6 on TG, he said it went round corners very well.

Yes but he was comparing it to a CX wasnt he? they are a bit rolly polly in the corners anyway.Dieselman wrote:Does a C6 need to be in Sport mode, surely it just engages it as required. When Jezza tested the C6 on TG, he said it went round corners very well.
I did find it strange he came out with the CX actualy as it was the XM that was the forerunner to the C6 not the CX.

Re: The DS to live again.
He wasn't really comparing it to anything, just said it goes round corners rather well. The other car in that test was the BMW 5 series, so...
I just don't see the point of engaging Sport mode when the car can do it faster than is required.

...but the C6 is 'technically' the 'new' CX - just the other day it caught me out as I wondered why out the corner of my eye there was a black CX outside when infact it was the C6!Dean wrote:I did find it strange he came out with the CX actualy as it was the XM that was the forerunner to the C6 not the CX.
I'm not really commenting on corners TBH, just the way the suspension feels in the different modes. There's not that many 'testing' bends around here, but dad certainly feels that the C6 feels very placed when rocketing along Fens roads at speeds other cars can only dream of travelling at.

Where do I sign up??We've nicknamed the 'normal' suspension mode as 'Waft-mode', as it really does waft along (!),

Re: The DS to live again.
Sadly looking even at the french Press, it is obvious that Cit themselves want to forget about the XM, sometimes even the CX. Cit fell into a marketing trap like the one Mercedes was going into in similar times, where the majority of their clients were getting well over 60 years of age, and this happened with the XM, and it is still very remembered in France, so they're still looking to dissociate from that image. The XM is easily classified as "pappy" (grandpa) car overthere and only recently young people rediscover it without the stigma. Difference is, back then, Mercedes clarified what target segment they wanted, and put all their resources in a renewal programme; Cit never decided, and put all their resources in....the Xsara...the s1 C5...a C6 that came out half decade late...Dean wrote: I did find it strange he came out with the CX actualy as it was the XM that was the forerunner to the C6 not the CX.

Wrong strategy anyhow to only look at the DS for heritage, if u ask me...Even this car that will be remarked by future historians I'm sure, the Xant Activa, I think they've not made as much at all as they could out of it. BMW would have been shoving it on our face day and night till we were sick of it, if they had made a car like that...
I read recently road test measurements where the C6 passes a slalom faster than the E60 xi 5-series. This is *the 4x4* version

Re: The DS to live again.
And - sweeden I think - found the activa out slalom'd the Porsche 911 or something - in fact it was the quickest was it not..
I think it was said on the Activa area on FCF..
As for Jezza's comparison, what he was actually getting at was Citroen making cars that were different... IE: Radio between the seats, indicator stalks that werent, and were sattelites on each side of the steering wheel.. He was saying the inside of the C6 is too "Normal" for Citroen...

Re: The DS to live again.
Ive heard that about the Activa, it tops the elk test above some very expenisve metal, and as much as i like the Activa it is a very misleading test.
Ive had a Focus RS for a couple of weeks and a weekend in a Porche boxster s and i can tell you now the activa will not outcorner either of them.
I believe the test is just to see how moron proof a car is and the test involvs sawing away at the steering wheel at as fast a speed as possible to see at what point the car lets go, obviously a rear engine rear drive car will not take you sawing the wheel back and forth but it will outhandle the Activa by a country mile.
Ive also heard the Activa pulls more G in a bend than a Honda NSX
im sure the NSX can overcome it low centre of gravity, advanced super lightweight alloy chasis and mid engine design to just outperform the front drive 1450kg fwd Activa running 205 tyres
I think the thing with the Activa is it makes a heavy family car handle like a 1000kg sports car which is interesting when you drive it as it doesnt handle like it leads you to believe it will and i think thats the key, it surprises you.
but the Activa as a track car or supercar slayer...............no, not even close.

Re: The DS to live again.
Well that's it then, the end of Citroen as we know it pretty much.David Hallworth wrote:If they do launch anything it won't have hydraulic suspension anyway!
Citroen have already confirmed that the C5 Exclusive and the C6's will be the last production Citroens to have the hydraulic suspension.
The director of Cit UK confirmed it by email to someone on the CCC when they were in communication with them about their C6 apparently.
So coil springs only from now on! Shame really, the end of a fantastic era.
David.
I'm afraid that if I'm going to be forced back to springs sometime in the future, it won't be in a Citroen. It just wouldn't feel right, the removal of the one thing that keeps them unique, even if their later designs have been sinking into the pit of Peugeot blandness, that suspension kept them a cut away from everything else.

Re: The DS to live again.
I know what you mean Ciaran, the parts guy at my local dealer was telling me about it the other day and it seems even the dealers are dismayed at the decision, Mid range hydraulic citroens, the BX, Xantia, C5 have been good sellers, and it is because of the suspension and in the case of the xantia the good derv engines when everyone else was using tractor engines.
Whats so different about a citroen now though?
