S1 PLIP is absolutley NO GOOD for a S2..

S1 is IR, S2 is RF....

Even though S2 cars still have the reciver plug up behind the roof console!

Radio cover has gone already, as has all the wood trim from centre console. If you wanted the entire dash, all the lights work on all the panels. The air con panel is sold though.

the instrument pod and main dash part is in my garage at home - the base is still in, as is all the wiring. I wasn't going to take the base out.

Drove it across the car park - it's weird sitting on the floor, peering out. It's in position now to get popped up on axle stands, so I can dismantle struts and tops.

Have pretty much removed outer wings and light panel/nose cone, lights are next, plus front bumper. Horns are off, fans and radiator are coming off as soon as it is up on stands.

Will be doing a little bit this Sunday afternoon, weather depending - mainly popping it up on stands to remove wheels and the bumpers.

Then whatever over next week at lunch and everything else I can recover over the following saturday. No word from Andrew, though.

So, help appreciated Saturday 26th, parts in payment. Zaphod, it would be handy, greatly appreciated and you could have the pick of the wiring and the main dash (the surround of one part is broken - but otherwise OK). The glovebox lock is also kaput.

Zaphod, let me know if you want to come remove the rest of the dash as that determines how much wire I chop out and post to Robert Smart on Monday.

It sounds like you are doing an excellent job of stripping it Campbell, well done.

Are you going to be able to recover things like the doors or are they going with the car.

I don't need them, just asking.

Ooh.. Doors mirrors might be worth saving though.

The reason for moving it was to park it close to where I can drop an extension lead down to use the grinder ...

Andrew has first call on the doors and other panels. I'll take a pic before I go home and upload it to the site later tonight.

My plan is

recover wings, doors, bonnet, boot, bumpers, exhaust (for I may steal the back box for my green XM) and cat

sunroof and motor (no leaks and all working)

wiper motor - broke the two caps at top of wing today but the panel is accessible and off to get into the wiper motor

starter and alternator

abs sensors from front and maybe from back too

hydraulic pump

air con pump - which worked in October

struts and tops

wheels

If I have help, the rack,

the header tank, steering wheel, spare wheel carrier battery carrier, air filter box, etc.

rear subframe

It's all time though and I have about fifteen hours of time to remove as much as I can - of course, space is an issue at home, especially for bits from S1s, when I have two S2s.

Any possibility of the hydraulic regulator and some pipework to make a sphere tester from. Any other sphere holder will do I guess, but that one should be easy to get to.

If not, then no bother.

If Zaphod needs the climate control panel, then be my guest. I was going to fit it to the white Prestige, but its gone now. If Zaphod doesn't need it, I'll still take it.

A handy tip for you Campbell, when you're dismantling the front suspension, and have the strut tops off, remove the whole hub and strut, its a handy way of keeping the caliper and ABS sensor in one place, but don't forget to undo the driveshaft nuts before the car goes on the stands.

I doubt you would get the rear abs sensors out. Or the.fronts at.that as.they are.very.well put in place. Rear subframe would be good! Pennis in it for.you too...
