Leaking LHM fluid

You used to be able to get the complete leak off pipes from GSF for not to much money.

They can be bought new from Citroen for about £15 each.

Using the Citroen / GSF part however would involve disturbing the LHM collector that is clamped to the strut with steel bands. I would rather leave well alone there and just replace the rubber pipe.

This past while, I have kept rubber lhm returns to use to replace these leak off pipes. The handiest is the little overflow pipe that goes onto the top of the lhm reservoir cap. There is also some nice clear plastic pipe that is part of the return to the tank, and is handy for joining the new pipe into the lhm collector at the back of the strut.

It was fine before I went away, could the cold weather have damaged something?

I'm no mechanic so no idea where to start. I'm going to see a bloke whos breaking another XM 2.5 on Thursday so if something needs replacing it'd be great if I can find out what it is & hopefully get this part from him at the same time.

Yes, if You mean suspention tubes or turbocharger tube, they leak if the weather is cold. Old rubber is not so elastic as new, frost metall become smaller a bit and LHM leaks. If its below -20 Celsies (about -4 Farenheit) connection can leak strongly, big drops or even stream.

I too tend go the route of a repair in stu, (Rather than disturbing the rubber saddle which is clamped to the strut/leg !

The leak off/vent pipes is a regular topic of discussion on the BXC forum, which again has been discussed this week,
Brian (Off the BXC) has done a neat modification job as shown below, note the BX has two pipes (opposed to XM/Xantias) which only have one !





Also if you did remove the saddle and are struggling to reuse the S/S securing strap or cannot get a new O/E (Kevan off the BXC) found an alternative solution by using a slightly easier type of securing strap from THIS supplier !

XMX, no need to do two pipes for XM. If leaks are so strong, that it's not enough one pipe You should not make a second pipe, it's better to refit leaking unit.
