I also tend to think that there's value in buying a high-miler, in that it means it'll be a sorted out car (especially the electronics) and also it's probably not a lemon! You see some C5s 80k cars with 5, 6, 7 owners...I wouldn't risk it...

Im a high miler Fan, the latest Xantia HDi I bought (From FCF's Xantic) is on 160k, however, it was needing a Crank Pully, cam belt and water pump.. I was amazed to see the original water pump on the car still (From the date stamp on the Pump) The belt was her second though, as it was a Dayco Belt...

Unfortunally Ive no history file yet From Russ... so dont know what else has been fitted.

Nice touch peter, Bottom pully (80 quid, though I bought a cheaper 40 quid one off the bay to try out durability)... and in tank fuel pump, still expensive at around 160 quid or so... I think..

My other xantia, as some will know, is on 238k, and she just kept going with nothing needed except Spheres, strut tops, and rear arm bearings.. the rear arms need dooing again, or a complete good rear sub frame fitting, which I have...

I don't know what it is about these 406s but any that appear below £1000 sell almost instantly, I chased numerous cars on ebay and Autotrader, ones I left messages with never bothered to reply, I then realised it was because they had sold the car before I came. I went to see one near Southampton, looked nice but the head gasket was leaking, it was an exclusive but mine has all the same gear except the leather, in fact it looked almost identical to mine, same colour, it sold for .....£1650. :o poor bloke that bought it.

I know someone has a 406 estate and both He and I were surprised that it failed the MOT on very rotten sills. The rest of the car is perfect as far as rust goes.

I've seen one or two rust spots on them in various places but the most common seems to be the front edge of the bonnet, I don't think there is any on mine but I must do something about the damaged sill.
