Hi Peter.

I'm sure you are running short of virtual memory for one of your programs, but I don't remember how to reset it to a higher value, XP should reset it temporarly itself. I'm looking through my old mags but haven't found it in any so far, and I may have given the one needed away!
I'm sure I read you had Windows XP. Do you have Service Pack 3? If you don't you should download it from http://update.microsoft.com . Or from www.snipca.com/x1830 Or www.microsoft.com/downloads

Hi Bob

Thanks for the reply, I have tried your link but it says 'no updates available The problem is worse on some websites than others, Autotrader is the worse, every time I try and download a picture, it stops and ths 'line 51' notice comes up and the download stops, if I click OK it goes away but only until I try with the next picture. Yes, I do have XP by the way.

Hi Peter,
Have you tried a "system restore" to an earlier date? Also if you are on IE and have another browser such as Firefox on board try using that and see if it makes any difference. If its a virtual memory problem as suggested by Bob then I think it requires a higher value set in a system config file, but I don't know how to do that.
I'm not a computer buff by any means but until one comes along you could try the above.

Roy.

Hi Peter,
Not heard of that particular fault myself have you tried googling it to see what comes up.
Just had a Quick google and it appears to be a java problem, There is a new java uapdate about you may or may not have it if not go to the java page and update it.

Hi Norman

I have Googled it but don't understand any of the results :? I'm afraid having been an electronics engineer for 50 years doesn't help with computers in the least :(

Peter.

It may be your 'real' memory that's too low. You would need to check out the setup of your computer and find out how much memory it came with. I tend to fit more than I'll need at the start, if it is too low you would need to buy another stick exactly the same as is fitted already. I'm sure I read somewhere about a USB memory dongle for this problem, but they are a bit pricey too.
Hopefully a new restore point will sort it as memory sticks are not cheap, and as suggested before, an update from jave could be a big help too. I tend not to bother with the Youtube or Java downloads as even my PC's memory seems to struggle, the picture keeps stopping while a circle thing revolves where the picture should be, quite a lot of times. That is the computer memory or hard drive catching up! And it annoys me too much.

Hi Peter,

Where / when is this message appearing? Is it only when you're on websites, or does it come up by itself if you're just sitting at the blank desktop?

What I suspect it is is a script error on one of the pages you're visiting, quite a common problem.
Which browser do you use?

Ciarán

Hi Ciaran

Strangely it only seems to happen on Autotrader when I try to open up the pictures, I have'nt noticed it on anything else, but its always on A.T.

Bob

I can't remember the memory size, I think about 4ghz? Its a dual core processor, seems to function perfectly on everything else except Autotrader. There is loads of free h/d capacity, probably only about a third full.
