Knows How to Use the Parking Brake...

Post by CitroJim » Tue Sep 07, 2010 8:13 pm

I see the board proudly tells me I know how to use the parking brake in a little message under my avatar :D

Until Saturday, that would have been very untrue as until Paul very kindly let me have a drive in his S1 24V V6 I'd never driven an XM.

I have now and I really do know how to use said brake.

I also rather enjoyed the drive as well :P Boy, does it go!

Shame I've just filled my last available car space with another V6 Xantia otherwise an XM might well have been under consideration as a result..

I thought you didn't get on with mk 2 Xantiae JIm - must've been a very compelling opportunity?
What's the story there then? In the future say, what Xm would you be looking for exactly?

Hi Andrew,

Yes, I have to say it was a very, very compelling purchase. One not to be missed really. It's only just a MK2, it's on an R plate and right on the crossover.

It's very low mileage and in very tidy condition with an impeccable service history :D

As for an XM, it would have to be a PRV V6 and a MK1. A 24V would be nice but as they're so rare, an aspiration rather than a reality so I'd settle for a 12V.

I must say I was just a little smitten :D

That's how the long slide starts....

As an outsider with a long history of Xantia, what do you think to the XM?

Right, well Jim... We could sort that out, Ive got a 12v V6 PRV one, on a 1993 K plate, which Im my opinion appears to be the best eira XM to get for NO suspension issues...

The hydractive has always worked, I need to fit a nicer lower milage engine into her, which I have.. and make sure everything is nice.. If she went to a fellow member who'd look after her Im happy to sell her.

As for a 12v V6 with a manual box, I guess only Andrew could sort that out for you, as the 12v V6 was manual only for the first year or so of production, then all were virtually auto...

The auto box does give a completely different feel to the PRV, and slows her down a bit... but, I think is still respectable. I drove this said one for 40k on LPG... The LPG would of course be an option ...

Glad you enjoyed the drive Jim, I was certain you WOULD have been impressed..

Im glad you enjoyed your first drive in an Xm Jim, they are certainly a nice drive. A 24v, im sure, would spoil you for the lesser models

Jim, why is there not a mention of this new V6 in your FCF blog? We need details and pics!

You will have to get an XM sooner or later Jim so I should do it now while there are still some left :D I have been looking for another 2.1 manual estate for nearly two years now and there haven't been any since I bought the white estate.
