Oil Dipstick

Post by citroeneer » Mon Mar 08, 2010 4:28 pm

Got a question here.

Is XM's (petrol 2.0) Engine Oil dipstick the same as xantia?

What if some of the plastic bits goes down to the oil sump?

Not sure about the Xantia. I'll have to have a looksee between my cars for you. I've had the
very same problem with a Xantia and am a bit concerned about it myself. The magnet in the
block won't attract the errant plastic fragment and whilst it could cause a thrombus of the
oilways this is assuming it somehow get's picked up by the oil pump (highly unlikely, or drawn
up by the crank and passed higher up the block into an oilfeed. Possibly not likely, either
touch wood!

OK, the plastic is more likely to get chewed up easier than a metal fragment and whilst I'd
worry about the piece being quite large I can't see it finding anywhere to cause real problems.
I hope I'm not proved wrong!! The only satisfactory way for ultimate peace of mind is the drop
the sump pan...

ahh...thanks andrew.

managed to remove the old ones without spilling the plastic bits ..and got a new one installed.
It's different for the 2 and 3 litre XM's.
