BX GTi

Post by Citroenfan0 » Wed Aug 06, 2025 12:25 am

Know this is not about XM,s, but have an old friend here in California, USA looking to acquire a BX GTi that is for sale here. He called and was wondering the best places on the web to go and ask questions about the BX. Bill is CX owner and has been involved with Cits for a long time. Any recommendation would be quite welcome.

https://bxclub.co.uk is probably the best remaining forum. It is pretty quiet there now, but there are a few enthusiasts lurking, waiting for a good discussion.

I am administrator of that forum, but I have never owned or worked on a BX.

Thanks for that - will pass on the info. ? How much do the Xantia and BX have in common. Understand that we never got either, officially, in the US.

The Bx is a Peugeot 405 in a different frock and with hydro-pneumatic suspension. It's pretty simple stuff and generally reliable. Spare parts and information are more readily available than for Xm.
From some time ago, I have some experience working on Bx, they are easy to work on.

The Xantia is the next model generation on, equivalent to the Peugeot 406. There will be a lot of common parts between the generations. Xantia VSX have Hydractive-2 suspension, lower models have Hydro-pneumatic.
As a fun car, I would be more inclined to go for the BX Gti, even in 8v form it's a real belter due to being made with weight saving composite panels, whereas the Xantia is a more finished, but less fun, car.

There is not much parts compatibility between BX and Xantia. The Xantia evolved over the years to have different everything (compared to a BX). BX and Xantia parts availability is similar to XM now.

In France I am lucky to see more than 1 BX and 2 Xantia in a week, and one XM a month (not counting my XM and Xantia). On a recent trip across France we played a game where we tried to spot one of each model (BX, Xantia, XM) on the same day, and over 8 days we succeeded once, but had to count the XM we were driving.
