it was rotten. Peter had to cut the sill, inner sill etc away and remake the area. I will post a couple of pics but he has done a fab job.
Ba dum tss...no pun intended, eh? ;)

That is the most common rust area on an Xm and you're appears pretty mild in comparison to many.

I can only guess that Pleides didn't need the rack out to fix the steering leak, as that would have been an ideal opportunity to fit new rack gaiters...or do you mean track rod end boots?

Good to hear you are nearly there, you will soon be enjoying the sublime Jekyll & Hyde character of an Xm, though I prefer to think of it more as Muhammad Ali.
I am not sure which boots need changing, as the car is not up in Teesside, it’s in Wisbech. Pleiades did the rack leak without taking it out, so we will need to leave it to them to sort out, just hoping they sort it for reasonable money. You are right about the rust, we just didn’t realise it was there, that factory sealer is very thick! We used the XM for lots of family holidays, when the kids were young, so I am looking forward to experiencing that wonderful drive again😁👍

Factory underseal can be a good liar.. I've a 1995 m reg 2.1td and the front outrigger behind the front jacking point looked perfectly formed a few years ago.. however after a bit of pokeing the underseal was still in formed shape but the metal had gone from behind it. So visually it was fine. So it was duely removed and a new ish section made up again.

Yes I think the sealant does a good job but if water gets behind it, the metal just rots away. As has been said, it wasn’t too bad to repair, I’m glad Peter got it before it could get worse🤔👍

Well she’s just had new boots fitted. There are a couple of little things to do, before she goes to Pleiades for the handbrake and steering boots to be sorted and then they will MOT it. Apparently the horn and windscreen washers are not working. It could be a fuse I guess? Onwards and upwards, it won’t be long now before we are shipping it back to Teesside, where I will start on the cosmetics, sorting trim, cleaning and feeding the leather etc.😁👍

Hi all, a bit of a stupid question. I need to get a new battery for the V6, ready for its test. Peter has been using an old battery from his workshop during the resto/recommissioning and that isn’t suitable. Does anyone have an recommendations about which type of battery to use? Cheers…

Hi again all…
I have finally got some good front side lights, thanks to another XM enthusiast. Peter is asking if there are any tips on removing the old ones and fitting the new set. Also he is asking if anyone knows where the fuses or relays are located for the windscreen washer and the horn. If anyone can point us in the right direction, that would be great. Not long now before it goes for its MOT! Cheers…
