FREE MOT's from Citroen...

Interesting Ciaran,

I didn't know they did that over here, it is a cheap pre MOT check. I wouldn't let those pricks anywhere near my cars though! The MOT tester asks the spotty youth how the parking brake operates, you can hear the response now, "dunno mate".

Conversation when I recently went to fit my Michelins in a local non-branded tyre shop:

Me: "Be careful to jack it up from the subframe, not the sills huh!"
Staff: "Yeeees, I know, trust me!"
Me: "Sorry to tell you, but I only trust my mom...and not always..."

I doubt the dealer in Edinburgh has ever seen my model of XM

when i took my old CX in there not one of the mechanics had ever worked on one - most hadn't ever seen one.

2 years ago I took a low mileage Volvo 940 Sport Estate (hooligan of a car) to the Volvo dealer for a service and MOT - the car had only done 180k - nothing for one of these - the dealer tried to get me to buy an V70 - no thanks says I - they are not 'proper' volvos IMHO. And besides 0 the 940 had been built to do 250k and had some life in it yet - one £800 service later timing belt, water pump, etc...told them to change the fan belt while they were at it as it desperately needed one - anyway - 1 week later the wife is on the A1 north of Newcastle with our 1 year old in the back of the car - heavy rain - car breaks down - aa called - fan belt! - the muppets had not replaced the fan belt - despite having to take it off to replacce the cam belt!!!! useless erses!!!

Yeah, I was driving past the main Citroen Stealer in Belfast, not in any hurry, I popped in to have a nosey at the C6. I parked the Cx at the entrance to the showroom. When I was walking into the showroom, everyone was walking out. I thought it strange, and turned round to see them all looking at the CX.

None of them had seen one before, the usual "does it have the suspension that goes up and down" type of questions.

I wouldn't even bring a Xantia to a main Stealer, they still would be baffled!

Just in-case XM Forum member's/guest's don't go on the BXC of FCF !

I thought I'd post the same here as I've done on the FCF to make every-one aware !

Hi Xac,
I tend to agree with you !

Its worth going for the free MOT, even if yours isn't due for 6 months. If it passes, you've got 12 months until your next MOT. If it fails, the expiry date on your current MOT doesn't change and you can consider this a free inspection.

If your car fails, you no longer have a valid MoT as your car has been deemed unroadworthy.
With it all being kept on database these days, I'd think it'd be harder to get away with showing the original MoT if stopped.

If you take a look at the same post/discussion on the BXC and especially the quote (By ed4ferrets) which I've copied and pasted below:-

The entire computerised MOT history shows, fails, advisories, the whole lot 8). Always handy to know what previous owner/s didn't bother to mention (possibly) needed doing for the next MOT

Just try it out, especially if you have a vehicle which you've owned since 2005 (Hopefully you may remember all the 1st passes or second attempt re-test you've had) I'm sure you'll all be impressed with the info the VOSA data base holds/reveals about it

So before you part with your hard earned cash on your next second hand car purchase, (If the vehicle has/had an MOT) ask the seller for the reg. number (If your not aware of it) plus the Document Reference Number from the V5C

I went to Citroen Glasgow in my XM once to get something trivial for it.... can't remember what it was.

The parts guy was standing outside having a fag when I got there.

I walked into the parts dept and asked for the part. He asked me what car it was for. I said the grey XM that you've just watched me arrive in.

His reply was an I quote "That's not a Citroen".......

Thankfully he redeemed himself and got me the right part though!

Reminds me of the time I got pulled by traffic for doing Citrobics at a set of traffic lights...... They pulled me as they didn't think the suspension was roadworthy if it was doing that........

I had to demonstrate to them that I could control it with the lever myself and it wasn't the car doing the movements on it's own!!

Just for info, though the VOSA system has a record of a failure that doesn't negate the existing certificate, that is still valid until the expiry date.

Hi All

Just a word of warning.
Have posted some comments on FCF.
If a replacement MOT is obtained during the currency of an existing MOT the old certificate is no longer valid.
The MOT certificate is no longer the legal document.
The legal status of the car is the last record held by VOSA at Swansea.
