Also, it the part you were given was from a Xantia, it is not likely that it will be correct for a H1 XM, as all Hydractive Xantias were H2.

H1 only had one electrovalve which operates 2 rigidity regulators (front and rear) hydraulically. That is about my total knowledge of H1.

Yes, but if not powered/operating, the vehicle will be Firm, front and rear - solid if spheres are flat.

Indeed but that wouldn't make it rock hard and the effects would be felt at the front too.
Given most people change the wheel spheres and not the other which have more of an effect on softness i think it has just been neglected and all three on the axle are flat.

It will be Hydractive 1 as the Prestige was a MK1 only edition.

Thats about all there is to it really, this setup seems to be more reliable too with the ecu's being more robust and the electro valves not prone to the corrosion or internal leakage of the later Hydractive2 system.
The Hydractive 1 valves are very scarce now though and finding one could be nearly impossible, not heard of one fail though..................yet.

This may all be wrong, we need to check ORGA and VIN for the car.
H1 ceased to be fitted during Mk1 production NOT with Mk2 introduction.
All later Mk 1 XM from ORGA 5929 were fitted with Hydractive 2.

Hiya, yes I will get pictures tomorrow. The back end rises when the car is started, and the car does stay level, but like I said the back end is rock solid, and bounces around the road when driving. The part I was given just looked like any other sphere, but he told me to fit it to the centre, and not to the side.
I'm located up In Lanark, when searching eBay last night I found there is someone breaking an XM, literally 10 miles from me, I've sent them a couple of messages, but haven't had a reply yet.

It will let us know exactly what is fitted to the car, including correct sphere specs.
Glad you've found a nearby car being broken. Need to obtain correct parts though. Significant differences between XM models, and ages of the same model.

I'll get the VIN tomorrow too. The car is still parked up and the MOT place, so i can't just nip out and check at the moment. The car being broken is a VSX, so could be later, and a completely different set up? For the MOT at the moment all I need is an exhaust (plenty on line), and the valve for the front pressure regulator. It only failed for a leak, so to me it seems like it could be repairable, changing an O ring or something along those lines?
