I wasnt going to Will, i was going to drop the cam pulley off but unfortunately the cunning plan was thwarted instantly as after removing the rear rocker cover saw it was obvious the timing cover was too tight and there was not enough clearance to undo the bolt, so that as they say, was that.

Postman turned up just after lunch with my new throttle cable so while it was striped out i fitted that which was a bonus, i suppose.
It is now back together bar the belts on the timing end and i can confirm it runs like a silky soft thing, not a tap or a cough or a knock or anything, perfect.....................THANK GOD!!!!!

Will, i shall now join you for a beer, cheers.

I have managed to jump up from 10 to 10.5 bar compression on every cylinder too which is a bit healthier, they are all bank on 10.5 bar too.
I want to finish off the interior tomorrow and get that all back together too, hopefully get most of the engine bay back together too except for the nose of the car which can wait until next weekend.

Well done Dean, a good result.

It looks like you missed something though during the engine rebuild. I think you forgot the last two cylinders to fill the gap by the O/s chassis rail.

He left that spare to allow himself some working room to take the timing chains off and refit after he'd fitted the engine into the car!!! Ducks and heads for cover........

Always good to have a couple of spare cylinders. A V8 XM . . .
Having said that, I have always been seriously impressed with just how smooth Citroen get things with just four, let alone six. :P

well i spoke too soon, now i have a problem very similar to matthews in that sometimes it wont rev and breaks up other times, ive got a bit too much voltage at idle on the icv and the ecu is still insisting there is a crank sensor fault so that is where i shall look next, even though i have tried two sensors (one new) and unplugging the crank sensor doesnt change the fault.

i also have a strange noise from somewhere that does not change with engine speed which you should be able to hear in the video, but the more the engine runs the less it seems to happen, didnt hear it last night but i just started it for 10 seconds as i had no water in it at all, this engine is fighting me hard!

Off out for the eveing now anyway, i shall resume when the coolant hoses turn up and i can run it for a good length of time.

That noise sounds like the hydraulic pump.
