As for the xm wing, I'd be tempted no to cut the rot out and get a patch welded on and painted up. I bet it's the bottom lip of the wig as well isn't it at least a gentle blend in in that section with new paint won't be so easy to spot due to the angle of it.

When you wanna get it over to the welder guy just drop me a text maybe we could do it the night I drop the V6 off

You're right, there is something special about taking an old Citroen back to France. You'll probably never get a better ride our of her than on almost any sort of French road - maybe because that's what the XM was tuned for.

We've had some absurdly courteous roadside greetings from both Gendarmerie and Protesting (British beef) Farmers when we approached in our XM - they seemed to appreciate that we'd selected one of their best.

We went in search of a grandfather's WW1 grave some years ago, and after most of a day's trying numerous military cemeteries found him in Haringhe-Poperinge. Moving enough, but to discover he died 'on my birthday' in the last few weeks of the war was an incredible coincidence. As a pacifist, he went out as a stretcher bearer, but 'died of wounds'. So sad.

Thanks Chris, and what a profound discovery on your part. Its amazing that anybody came out of that war alive....Luckily for us we know the exact site of the grave as another family member has been there before, albeit some years ago..

Well the xm rally is fast approaching and lo and behold my xm isnt going to make it after all

I wont go on about how annoyed i am that this is the case, but lo and behold its not down to not being able to make it happen, but moreso its a timing thing.

The car is ready for its pre MOT welding to be done, ive got the money stashed for it, and ive even had a very reasonable quote for car insurance of £280 for the year , but once again work is pi@@ing about again with the company car thing. Now i have to keep the nissan until the lease runs out, which im waiting for confirmation on, but it looks like it will be sometime in 2015. Once that runs out, my only option is the car allowance to drive something 5 years old at most, or a salary sacrifice which gives me a brand new car, fully maintained and insured, taxed etc, with a set amount deducted each month from my wage, This should work out cheaper, so ill get the figures tomorrow hopefully on whats what, but it means that for the xm to return to the road it would be an extra expense which with Linda still not working isnt feasable on the run up to christmas

So, the way its going to be is i'll keep the money stashed, gather up the money to tax it and stash that also. then when Linda gets a job (she is looking full steam ahead starting this week as the summer holidays are over) then its coming out of retirement and will once again be my second car toy again.

The insurance works out at a £45 upfront fee and then £29 a month. Not bad i thought.

Work is getting better, almost bearable ! Im even getting more staff this week to ease my workload (about time) so although im going to see some agencies next friday morning on my day off, unless a great offer comes along, ill stay put for now

On the pallas front ive been busy for weeks now. Ive got a further xm booked in for the end of week 2 in september and possibly a foray into cleaning up a caravan. After that i dont have anything else booked in, but thats ok as as long as i have the money stashed for the xm's return im not much bothered about anything else as once Linda starts working again we will be back on easy street money wise.

All said and done though, ill be attending the xm rally in the nissan as im not missing it. so ill see you all there.

I do need to drum up some parts though...i think a message to Paul is in order....

Such a shame Vince, at least you have the money in a pot ready to get it back on the road though!

Never understood the 5 years thing, i ran the Activa for work when i first moved up to junior manager and got my 45p a mile which was fine, if that was to be the case again though i would get a C1 or similar, cheap to buy with good resale, it will be bullet proof and do silly high MPG's too, then just keep chopping it in to maintain the warrantee.

Which nissan have you got, is it the Juke?

That's a shame Vince you won't be in the XM, but at least it will be on the road soon I hope.
