New XM owner in Australia

Bought my first XM this morning, XMs are very thin on the ground here in Australia. One popped up last week, a 1992 4 cylinder 5 speed manual, it was a private import in 1997, has a MPH Speedo, white with black leather seats, a sunroof. The last XM in any sort of fit order I’ve seen was back in 2016.

The plate for the import is marked “XM Prestige”

Look forward to getting this home, cleaned up & back on the road.

Regards
John

White is a great colour for an Xm.

A Prestige is basically a 2.0I with manual leather seats. It was a Uk, Series-1 run out, special edition.

Thanks Dieselman for the identification.

Found a 1989 UK XM brochure online today.
It looks like I have a 2.0L injection and a spec pretty much the same as a 2.0 SEi. Alpine white with the black leather interior.

I note the car has the left matrix display, which a Uk, Prestige wouldn't.

Do you know which country the car was imported from, or was it imported and sold as new in Australia?

Hi Dieselman not sure which country the car was imported from, it was what's known here as a Personal Import meaning someone overseas owned this and generally emigrated to Australia and shipped the car out with them. I'll have the car in my garage this coming week so will be able to look at it more closely. THe current seller seems to think it was a French Embassy car. It has some numbers engraved on the glass and most of the car parts have security numbers on them. The engravings on the glass look like a rego number

Glass etching was a common anti theft deterrent in the Uk.
The car is Rhd, has a Mph speedometer, so I suspect it was a Uk car, but with slightly different spec, or a direct personal import via a broker, which means it could be any spec the owner decided on.
