How many miles on a battery with NO alternator???

Hi all
As I'm considering picking up this XM I bought and driving it back without an alternator belt, could I get some stats on how many miles an XM can do on a battery?
I know I'm not specifying battery size and what XM, but looking for a rough indicator -seller tells me it should do the 330 miles on 3 batteries.
I, for once, was with an os alternator with my 3lt, and I (remember I) did about 60miles until battery killed the engine, but maybe my recolection is not good.
cheers
George

With evrything running (fuel pump, ignition, ecu's FANS!!) i would guess 50-100 miles depending on the strength of the battery and whether it was raining or not etc, there are too many uncertanties to give a good estimate, so just get a smaller belt and fit it before you depart that way you have no extra worries bringing an unknown car back over 300miles!

Yes, yes, obviously will try the small belt, I'm asking just in case this doesn't work out, thinking of taking batteries with me *anyway*.

Yes George mine is A/C, and the other two engines i have are not A/C and have the later Bosch management system although from memory i dont think that affects the belts at all.

Obviously 4 cylinders may go further then 6, as theres 2 less cylinders, to spark, two less to inject..
ANOTHER Diesel advantage! In daylight theres ONLY the fuel STOP to power up to make it run, (unless its epic).. of course the useual fans and interior toys will help drain it..

Surely the diesel needs somone who wants to start it in the first place for it to run?
(joking you heavy fuel lovers)
